It's really a pity what you went through all these while, having to loose your admission. I like your the fact you are sincere with your situation. Just follow any path that will not add to the financial burden of the family. Discover your passion and follow it. Education is just Academic exercise, it does not guarantee any future. Get on with the programming, be the best you can be at it. The sky will be your limit, you can always get a BSc later in future in a more comfortable way. Good luck!!

You mean schooling cos the programming he wants to learn is also part of "education."

Now, to be honest, I just clocked 26. I was done with my sec. education way back in 2012. Due to one problem to the other, i couldn't further. I had to involve myself in some menial jobs to sustain myself for the meantime and along the way, i learned phone and computer engineering and i do brush through some very important books occasionally.

This is where I need your wise opinion guys. Dad got into a problem when i was about to finish sec. School and since then, hes been repaying debt till now. Infact, debt has consumed all his salary. He's just borrowing from peter to pay Paul to survive.

And he's still of the opinion that i go to school. I got admission to study pharmacy at OOU in 2018, paid the acceptance fee but couldn't pay school fees and i lost it for good. So he wants me to try again but where will he even see the money when school wahala comes again? He's gonna go the borrowing way again i guess; compounding the problem we have at hand

So I've been thinking....what if i go back to factory work, then get myself a computer and learn programming "frontend development for a start"? I want to dedicate atleast 1 to 2 years to learn it. Then after that, i would proceed to school either on part time or full because i still want to further my education to get the b.sc cert. at the minimum.

Honourable men and women, CONSIDERING THE NIGERIA OF TODAY, i need your wise words at this critical junction of my life.

If I'm done with the programming, can it atleast sustain me a little bit?

Should I faithfully follow my dad's intention or just go through my own plan?

Thanks

Programming changed my life. It can change yours too the only thing you need to do is not giving up while learning.

My experience will help you.

My own case is, I am an orphan but I have rich elderly ones, very rich but they used the mistake I made in my first university against me. I was expelled from LASU.

Fastfwd>>>>>
I went to Federal uni outside south, engage in real time hustle, such as: painting houses at cheap rate for students that lives off-campus, sell codeine & drugs to rich kids, officers and politicians, protect rich kids, I have a gym place where I made monsters, I rent big house where lecturers d bring students come my crib. I do everything, without asking my rich brothers.

Las las, I graduated with 2.2 from E/E and all of my brothers were shamed but at at same time proud of me.

My advice? Buy a desktop and printing machine then run photocopy biz from ur house, also submit proposal for sec. Sch where u might be schooling so u can print exam questions for them, or sell ladies undies. I did over ten business for school. No time to sleep.

So, u can go to school and make a history.

You seem like a very nice and determined young man. May God see you through and give you wisdom to make the best decisions. The two plans are good. Also, you have a very thoughtful father. I am sure he is very unhappy that he cannot comfortably afford your fees...Honour him when you prosper

my dear, if u love ur life and your sanity, forget university and polytechnic education in Nigeria now

Presently, this country is lost. U better channel ur energy towards something u can do now and make money

Forget schooling now. Gain knowledge via personal study, read books to educate urself.

I don't joke with education, but Nigeria don cast.

I see nothing wrong in pursuing both simultaneously as there is nothing that will hamper the achieving of them both aside lack of commitment from your end. School is necessary for survival in the 21st century but what will sustain You us the requisite skills that are you have and can show the world.

See both as what must be achieved together. Thank you

Believe me, we need to develop the ability to research and find answers on our own, the information is there, so we need to understand how to make use of it. I don't think it helps to spoon feed every time, cheesy cheesy cheesy

Another angle. If Tutorial Hell is inevitable, let him face the "demon" right away, if he cannot wrestle it and overcome it then there is no need for him to spend weeks, data, money and resources when eventually he'll back down.
But on the flip side. What if is made for greatness and all he needs is just a little push by giving him concise materials? Like the biblical Ethiopian Eunuch, he need someone to "explain " to him? cheesy cheesy

cheesy Nahh. I just know how these things go because I've seen it happen to people around me. People seem to create fancy ideas for themselves when they're trying to escape a more challenging option.

Learning a skill is great, especially an ICT-skill in this 21st century. But it just shouldn't be in exclusion of getting a degree, especially in this Nigeria.

Getting a degree goes beyond the certificate- the grooming, the exposure, the network - and then yes, the certificate, because there's no telling when it will become very important, so why should someone put himself at a disadvantage?

Take your Dad's advice. Go back to school in 2025 when you must have gotten your own systems, learnt the programming you want, established yourself as a well earning I.T. guru. You must have also acquired at least one asset (even if na half plot) and most likely married and be mobile by then. Then you will enjoy education somewhere in Ghana or Egypt where ASUU does not strike!

Don't mind this current generation of parents will sacrifice their limbs so their kids will be called graduates without even caring how they'll survive through the course or after graduation.

Nonsense, Debts and Desmond Elliott.

I would advice to first do ur research, so that u can know the computer course that most quickly equip u with the computer skills that can offer u a well paying job that is better than ur current factory earning. After that I will strongly urge u buy one or more of the computer classes that has a video tutor online. Good examples of these online courses are hosted by sites like udemy.com. u can purchase some computer courses there for ad low as $11 - $25 when they're on discount. Always wait for discount as the do it every week. U can also checks computer courses on Edx, especially the Harvard Edx computer courses, which are free unless u want to get a certificate from the course, which might cost u a about $200.
Also, u can some of these courses on YouTube too. Stanford University always has their on YouTube for free.
U just have many choices. All u need I'd time, determines action a d the internet and u can go places with these courses.

Good luck!

You can learn Data Science from Google on Coursera, you can get this for free (mail me and I can direct you on how to get the scholarship). With this, you can even get remote jobs and you can finish this course in a few months.
It is a lucrative area.

You can also consider open university while you work. it is a very viable option or lookup Nexford University they also have a scholarship program in partnership with sterling bank. It's online too.
