Apart from completing the remaining works at the Anambra International Passenger / Cargo airport, massive landscaping with trees, grass, and flowers is what must be followed up now. Hopefully, they have a landscaping team (Contractor) that does the landscaping work as a contract to ensure that it is properly done. This is also the best time for landscaping as we slowly enter the rainy season. However, one final appeal I have seen among many Anambra indigenes and diasporans is for the MOU to develop the Anambra airport city (aerotropolis) to be signed now before Obiano leaves office. Whether we like it or not, the airport city will develop now that the airport has become a reality. The question now is whether it will be a re-creation of another Ochanja type development with unorganized, filthy markets and truck parks everywhere, or if we will manage to create something decent as a true airport city that will become a reference of development for the entire southeast. The difference between these two types of development is early intervention by the government to properly guide how the desired airport city should develop. Most of us like how the development of Abuja was regulated to produce a decent, well-planned city. Abuja is better than Lagos because it was planned and the development regulated according to the master plan. I have come to trust Willie Obiano as a man committed to the quality and development of a place based on the master plan, not the chaotic market trader development we have in Nigeria. This is actually a rare attribute among many Africans especially Southeast governors! My fear is that a new Anambra governor might have their typical funny and weird fixation of either building a mobile phone assembly plant as their only development, while totally neglecting government core functions of ensuring core developmental areas as the Anambra airport city has properly regulated development. That is why we are pleading to Obiano to sign the MOU for the development of Anambra International Airport City before leaving office. That is the only way to ensure that development within the airport city eventually follows the plan to meet our collective aspiration for a truly modern aerotropolis in Anambra state. A well-planned and carefully designed residential and commercial development district similar to the video below will be desirable for the Anambra International Airport city (Aerotropolis). it will also help grow tourism and attraction of high-end quality investment into the state for such a district to exist close to the international airport. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EObw_t_27e0 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Rocksvibes234: Anyway, I'm not a specialist. It is just something I observed through educating myself here. However, I'm not sure if the actual compass is oriented differently from the paper illustration of a compass for runways that lie in a left-right horizontal direction. This is because if you use google earth to look at every airport runway in the world that lies in a left-right horizontal direction, the bigger number is always on the right-hand side and the smaller number is always on the left-hand side. You can do this research yourself. Even all the airports in the world with 06,24 runway orientation across the world follow that order. |

TheIstOfHisName: which neighborhoods would you say are 'shanty slums'? lol |
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by TheIstOfHisName: 4:45pm On May 01, 2021 |
Ofodirinwa: These pictures were taken in 2021 by @Orjioffical and @Owerrichick, along the Ohi- Orogwe road in Owerri, Imo state. This is the western world definition of a slum. Go to "Ghettos" In Denver or Chicago, you would wonder why they are ghettos at the first place. They are better off than some glorified hoods in Nigeria you've been to. If you haven't been opportuned to travel out of the 3rd world, quit disgracing yourself in public spaces. Using your standard of what a good neighourhood looks like, which shanty slum is in Awka? The bad road you posted of the city is peculiar in your Owerri

TheIstOfHisName: lol a road mid construction that got rained on in an upper-middle class neighborhood is a shanty slum? Have you seen a road being built before? |

Ofodirinwa: They exist bro. I'm not in the East at the moment and I wouldn't fake pictures to win an argument which is valid. If you think your Owerri is all paradise and no ghetto, then I would leave you with that delusion. The fact is still there for everyone who wish to stroll around the city to see 1 Like |

Bogus001: Soon Anambra will be welcoming this category of Cargo airplanes! Congratulations to Obiano for giving this great facility to Anambra, and indeed the rest of the region and Nigeria at large. If Nigeria were indeed a united country, even people outside the region will be commending Obiano and giving him titles for a job well done to open up Nigeria for more international trade and commerce. But, in Nigeria, all the black man specializes in is how to frustrate and pull each other down. I am so happy for Anambra state's achievement because I don't subscribe nor reason like a typical black man. A seriously flawed mindset of black people that has kept us down and against each other's progress worldwide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3uf2ylcUb4&t=175s 10 Likes 1 Share |

I read some posts about how the airport is a run down and comparing it with $2bn airports globally. I went on youtube and watched the drone video of the project. My position is that anambra airport can compete with abuja airport when completed. I had the same feeling when I landed in abu dhabi in 2012 with the airport looking like a construction site with cranes and bulldozers all over the place. A look at abu dhabi airport today is mindblowing. With the layout of the anambra airport, if continuous investment is done over the next 4 - 8 years that project will be a thing to be proud of. Hopefully the govt that will take over from Obiano will not abandon the project and I also believe anambra investors will take advantage of opportunities to invest there. Its a state government airport and will not be subject to the bureaucracy of FAAN and its unions. I also believe air peace can tap into the market that airport will offer. My fear is that enugu airport will lose its relevance in the region but since the fed govt have refused to invest in it the way it ought to anambra can serve as the gateway airport to the south east. 5 Likes |
