That reporting stuff never suits me. I'm mostly temperate with kids because I know they don't know better. But aunty, if your pikin carry do pass e sef, I go beat am walahi talahi cheesy.
I can't trust how someone else may beat. It may be out of anger and besides, some people beat anyhow and could inflict injuries on that child. Let someone not go and use iron to burn the child or koboko to peal the child's back in the name of discipline. People can overdo.

So, me I am careful with other people's children. I no dey do pass myself. Aside, the regular light spanking on the hand or scolding and correcting, I prefer to report to the mother. But if thst child lives with me and wqs kept in my care, I can discipline him/her like I do my children.

Besides, there are some things I don't beat kids for because I feel it's a learning curve for them and I want them to be able to be open to me about stuff as they grow, and not always thinking that mummy will beat me. Wooo...parenting is not easy abeg

I don't even hit my siblings, nor sb in my care.

I rather deploy other punitive measures.
Beating for me comes when you intentionally did something knowing it is wrong especially when I have told you not to. Or if a child is rude, disrespectful and stubborn.

Beating too much may take away their confidence and not allow them tell you problems they are going through as they grow. Besides, I was the beating type but my hubby told me not to beat her for everything. That I should remember that she's a kid and naughtiness is part of their growing up.

I won’t say I don’t understand it because a lot of us were raised to see it as nothing. Including me. Teachers at school would hit you as punishment, aunties and uncles in the extended family would spank you. We consider it good training. Which it isn’t.

What I don’t understand is the unwillingness to unlearn bad things. Because you’re raised that way doesn’t mean you can’t unlearn unwholesome things you learned while growing up.

That’s the current problem we are having. Unwillingness to unlearn.
This is spot on.

Some will leave their children and another person's child on errand.. And if this frequent, will you still allow your child run errands for them in the name of respect?
Hashabiah:
Bros I am an African, and I grew up with the idea that running errands for my elders was a sign of respect. So it is a cultural norm in African society which I support 100%. And if my child does not do emulate such, it is a sign he is rebellious and if he is disciplined in the process, so be it

Bros your question is going out of context.

No one has the right to hit my child except maybe teachers and even at that,to a limit. If my child misbehaves, report them to me and let me handle the situation.Btw,this sending of errands by "uncles" and "aunties" is what exposes kids to sexual molestation.I don't need any kind of unnecessary "familiarity". Don't send my kids on errands and I won't send yours, period.
