Elephant Protection Initiative has raised concern that Nigeria's elephant population is fast depleting after local hunters shot dead a 4th elephant in Ogun State, IgbereTV reports.

The elephant was killed near Omo forest in Ogun State. Elephant Protection Initiative stated on Twitter that this is the 4th elephant illegally killed in two years.

Elephant Protection Initiative wrote;

"Sad. Near Omo Forest, Ogun, not far from Lagos, 4th elephant illegally shot dead in 2 yrs. #Nigeria's few elephants - c400- fast disappearing. (Elephant shot by local hunter- those in pic not responsible)."

Nigeria is already a wild and one wild animal may not want to condone another, hence the killings.
We kill these animals, eat the meat, go to toilet and wait for another one to be killed. What exactly do we gain from that?

Hunger is really ravaging south west. Very soon, they will start killing each other for meat

The hunters need serious reorientation.
The government needs to Improve elephant protection and management - by providing equipment and training to anti-poaching teams; developing community-based wildlife management schemes that contribute to elephant conservation.
Let us all come together to protect the elephants.
