I work in a state high court as a secretary...and my colleagues do say I'm fast in typing (although, I don't think I'm fast.)

Some hours ago, a colleague of mine called that he has a job offer for me, that he needs someone that is "super" fast in typing, that a doctor intends travelling and he wants someone to type for him. The thing is, he will be interviewed and I'm expected to type everything he says; word for word.

He says many people recommended me to him, but to be sincere, I doubt I can be that fast.

He asked my current location, and I told him Lagos (I left Imo last week), he said he will pay my t.fare to Imo this night so I can come down tomorrow.

Please I need experts in this field advise. I'm planning on recording his conversation while I type the ones I can grab as he is talking...that way I'll re-edit with the recorded version.

Well, typing fast takes conscious effort and consistent practice. No magic can happen overnight. Since your colleagues say you type fast, you can bank on their judgement, since you don't have much option, and take the test.

While at it, you can install Mavis Becon Typing Tutor and play around with it.

Above all, give them some psychological impression that you're good. Be confident and if anything goes wrong, pretend it's just a one off occurrence and doesn't happen all the time.

All in all, you'll still cast if you don't type fast

Record with your phone, type as much as you can, the. Use the recording to flesh out your notes. Then take typing lessons.

Go for the interview, do your best. Dont take shortcut. Let the man evaluate you based on your current skill.

But why leave government work for one-man job. I think this should be your worry

You already have the solution, just record the conversation then go over it and type them patiently that way it will be error free

Go with a recorder and record as you type. Then play the recorder after the interview to review your writeup

No one is good enough... It's better you type slow with error free, than FLASH with thousands of errors.


Typing fast requires years of practice, not 48 hours.

Type on code na... that is, a kinda shorthand typing, don't type every words he says just as it is spelt.

When you are done you can then edit and make some corrections abi them wan use projector project wetin you dey type make everybody see?

I think you have already devised a fine way to your question.

Thursday morning.

Typing fast (like any other skill) comes with constant use and practice.

Not sure you can do it overnight (although a memorized layout of the Qwerty keyboard may help) but it basically comes with you constantly typing.

Marvis beacon is an old school typing-teaching software (it also helps you keep track of your current typing speed in words per minute), you may find it interesting if you try it but even if you are using MS Word, just continually do what you do and speed will come naturally with time.

It's practically impossible to type another man's speech unless he's dictating. This was the reason shorthand was invented in the first place.

It was later abolished when recorders became a thing.

Just go for the interview as you are, try to get a recorder (your phone).

Note: your typing speed should not be less than 99% else you will mess up big time
