Felicia Adebola Adedoyin Is Dead (Author Of Nigeria’s National Pledge Dies) by etokhana(op): 10:41am On May 05, 2021
Prof. Felicia Adebola Adedoyin, the author of Nigeria’s national pledge, passed away on Saturday after a brief illness.

The Late Adedoyin who was born on the 6th of November 1938 is the 2nd of 6 Children and a Princess from the Iji Ruling House of Saki, Saki West Local Government, Oke Ogun area of Oyo State.

An educationist, Adedoyin received her PhD in 1981 from the University of Lagos.

Prof. Adedoyin, who lectured at the University of Lagos and was a consultant with the United Nations, wrote the national pledge in 1976.

She was propelled to write the pledge following questions by her children who had been used to reciting the Oath of Allegiance while in school in New York, and the State Pledge in Achimota School, Ghana.

Prof. Adedoyin wrote the pledge in the Daily Times in July 15, 1976, in an article titled ‘Loyalty to the Nation, Pledge’ which was shown to the then Head of State, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, who modified it and introduced it to the country during the formal launch of the Universal Free Primary Education (UPE) and decreed that all school children recite the national pledge in assembly.

In 2005, Prof Adedoyin was given a national award, the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). She was in the care of her children when she passed away, and surrounded by loved ones.

Rip ma'am

I pledge to Nigeria my country
To be faithful loyal and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity,
And uphold her honour and glory
So help me God.

It's so unfortunate that the pledge has lost its value by many Nigerian citizens.

We're no longer faithful loyal and honest sad
Our strength and bravery for this country is long gone embarassed
Hooops!!! To uphold her honour and Glory is a now a thing of the past.

This administration failed it citizens!!!

Nah wah, it must have been from heartbreak, writing such patriotic lines of poetry to have dickheáds and their followers twist it into a meaningless drivel.

Rip ma ,u did your best for your country but the same obj that ensured that it became part of our national Anthem ,never believed nor practiced the letters when he came back in 1999,he ensured that corruption replaced the national Anthem ...this is to show u that most of our national leaders are hypocrites

Death has been misfiring in Nigeria.
It entered As5Hole rock, missed target and killed only Abba Kyari.
Let the God of Abacha make Nigerians happy once again

When she wrote that piece there was natural love for the country... We were all faithful, loyal and honest because there was no bokoharam, zero banditry and unknown gun men were non-existent!

I could travel from Lagos to maiduguri any time, any day! And that's unity.

Back then our parents served Nigeria with all their strength, they weren't so hungry and angry like we are today... I don't have enough strength to serve any corntree again because a bag of rice wasn't 30k, a litre of petrol wasn't 165, I could travel to UNITED KINGDOM with 15KNAIRA... BUY A Brand new Peugeot from Kaduna for 4,000 naira and even school in Nigeria University without ASSU striking,!

I could go on and on but one thing is sure!
Mummy died " saying so help me God"

RIP to her

How come her kids were not constantly showing us her poor living condition, just like the kids of the Nigerian-flag-man?

I asked a friend the other day. Why are you guys always bothered about bringing in your mothers to live with you in their old age or after you marry, what of your fathers? I have old uncles in the village and none of their kids have come take them to their family houses in town. Why?

Even the leadership of Nigeria is not loyal to the nation but themselves. If only she knew every thing about patriotism in Nigeria will become what it is today under a failed president.Gone are the days we cherish the national pledge with gusto.
