Bank Work Or Bolt Driver? by 2blockus: 2:05pm On May 06, 2021
So I'm a graduate of civil engineering, but work as a contract staff in a bank for over 5years with 100k salary.

I bought a functional car which fit into bolt but I'm scared of resigning from my job as I have family responsibilities.

This bank work doesn't give me opportunity to grow with them and time to do other side hustle and I know one day it's either they sack me or I leave.(but one must happen)

Please I need advice if I should still continue this work or start street hustle.

Note: I save the money for this car from salary and side hustle base on what I studied in school.

Don't resign from your job, one of the ways of moving forward in the banking industry, is gaining experience in one bank and applying for higher position in another bank.

Instead of resigning, have 2 streams of income.

Work in your bank and give your car out for hire purchase.

Bolt driver all the way....but before you begin please have 6 months budget for fueling and servicing of the vehicle.

Your 100k salary may look like gold to you now but you can make all that in two weeks as a bolt driver if you are in Lagos or Abuja. Understanding of route, traffic and traffic laws is the key.

Do not be trapped by your salary, the world is yours for the taking if you have enough balls to take risks.

That being said, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

continue in your bank job,and as someone already said here, give ur car out for HP and start the process of saving to get another one.monies from the HP,side hustle and Banks consistent salary can get you another car in the shortest possible time.there and then I will advice you to start Bolting on weekend and public holidays, also when you close early especially on Friday... Do this and thank me later

As a contract staff in a bank, your experience doesn't count in any bank. Na still contract staff you go be.

Expertise can only be transferred from one bank to the other if you entered as a Trainee from start.

Really, maybe everyone has different stories.

i know someone who started as a contract staff doing sales with the Defunct oceanic bank, met his target, became a full time staff, moved to UBA, his means of moving forward in the industry has been the method i described above, the last time we spoke, he was a commercial manager.

Maybe he was lucky cause of his client base and huge cabal (customer's network). But it's almost impossible to grow as a contract staff without going through training school as a trainee.

That's what I'm saying na. Na cabal. Contract sales staff can use cabal as leverage but you see teller and CSOs, OYO is their case.

Retain you bank work while seeking for better oppurtunities aside bolt driving.. it's only sweet on paper and words..

- If you give the car out on HP, the car would die within 6mths without adequate returns..

- Your bank work gives you contacts and good network to meeting certain caliber of people..

- cab driving kills your self confidence as a young graduate whom have been oppurtuned to work in an office environment.

- To raise 100k on driving monthly would drain you totally out and when you check in a few months, you would find out you have grown poorer.

- if your job could afford you a comfortable car, it can afford you more with consistency and discipline.

Get the savings from there ,your side hustle and sure banker salary and by December you can hit the streets with another car.
Then u can join bolt and pamdrive on a part time.

There is a thread for Uber/Bolt guys here on nairaland.

I like you comment but i have only one thing to write down.

He has been working in that bank for 5 years, why didn't contact and good network help in getting a more better job.

From my little understanding of things.

Networking is over rated, the reality is 89% of result oriented networking mostly happens within top management and these people dislike outsiders, This is just my observation.

True... networking is over-rated.. as most times you loose money meeting only packaged people and not the real deal..

Well, there is a difference.. the last 5years was without a goal, the next 1 year with a defined goal can make a very big difference... but the bolt driving is not a goal.

I support him holding on to his job and driving weekends but giving the car out or quitting and driving full time.... hmmmm... hmmmm... it's really not advisable.

Defined goal.

Networking between Someone without influence and someone of influence in most cases always lead to disaster and pain that is because the person of influence will see you as a cv dropper and most times will avoid you but if 2 people of influence meet and network it is a whole different game.

The logic is the reason the rich network among themselves and the poor among themselves, take that analogy and put it in the workplace and any environment, you will see the same effect
