Kiss Daniel didn't have this kind of success when he blew up. In just one year, Omah lay has 1m spotify listeners (more than mayorkun, fireboy and many other artistes before him), over 600k Audiomack subscribers (only Davido, Burna and naira Marley have more), 420k YouTube subscribers, and moderate international recognition (he also has a deal with Warner Records in just one year but that's by the way). Does this seem like someone who doesn't have a fanbase at all?

Not everyone needs controversy or an interesting personality to build a fanbase. Some people are lucky enough to get die hard fans with nothing but good music and good management (which omah lay has). Some musicians earn a lot of fans simply because people really love their music and want to listen to anything they drop e.g Adele. Even good looks can help someone build a fanbase.

Talent, consistency, good management and even grace is important to remain relevant for a long time. Kiss Daniel probably fell off because he left his former label and started his own, his personal label probably lacks enough skilled personnel to help push artistes properly, I remember one of his signees complaining. Mr eazi is also an independent artiste now. Good management and Grace is very important.

When Kizz Daniel came into the scene, Nigerians weren't streaming as much as they do now so you can't compare them.

The old generation musicians all have fanbases. They might not have had a unique name for thier fanbase like the 30BG or Marlians of today but they did have fanbase. In their own days, they called their fanbase "club".

You must have heard of "Pasuma fan club" "Orlando Fan club" " Wasiu Fan club" e.t.c.
