General Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro is dead

Dogonyaro, a Former Field Commander of ECOMOG, died in Jos on Thursday morning according to family sources.

The retired general was popular for being a member of the ‘langtang Mafia’ during his days in the military. He was also responsible for announcing the coup that removed current President, Muhammadu Buhari from power in 1985.

He read the coup speech that ousted the Buhari military junta and brought in the Ibrahim Bademosi Babangida junta on August 27, 1985. Born in 1940 at Vom Missionary Hospital, Vom, Plateau State, he attended Saint Peter CMS Primary School, Bukuru, from where he gained admission into Boys’ Secondary School, Gindiri.

He later moved to Dental Technology School, Broad Street, Lagos, gaining admission into the Nigerian Defense Academy, Kaduna shortly after.

He was aged 80.

The military really had an inglorious past the moment it chose to overthrow democratically elected government and execute subsequent coups. This man once bestrode Nigeria and even west Africa like a collossus yet despite his gallantry as an Officer, his legacy is diminished by his involvement in coup plotting. Condolence to his family. Crime,including coup plotting, does not pay.

How I wish one of these contemporary soldiers will grow an inch size of your balls to at least attempt what you did in the 80's to save the country again but Alas, we are stuck with ikorodo dancers in the name of soldiers.

I bet that nobody who witnessed Babangidas coup, and how unpopular it was, ever thought they will praise him for doing so at some point in the future... Everybody thought he simply toppled Nigerias Jerry Rawlings just to become a president..

When these guys chased this man away in 1985. .., the coup was so unpopular because of the so called fight against corruption led by Idiagbon.. So much so, that many hoped Babangida will be toppled and Buhari returned to power..

Take a look at what is happening today and you will know why God doesn't answer some prayers sometimes... It took Babangida months to consolidate power and if he wasn't a shrewd manipulator, he could easily have been eliminated as many people felt he toppled a "progressive, corruption fighting, egalitarian government" of Buhari! How wrong we are!

Those are a generation of bandits and armed robbers that stole the country dry.
They stole tens of billions of dollars of nigerian money.
