There are lots of RESEARCH AREAS in BIOCHEMISTRY, it all depends on your PRIOR RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (most esp. your final year project topic) and how you can tailor it to your RESEARCH INTERESTS

I have a B.Sc in Applied Microbiology and brewing and presently pursuing an M.Sc in Environmental Quality Management.
Recently, I noticed there are a lot of Ph.D scholarships in the field of microbiology and chemistry ( I may be wrong though)

Now to increase my chances of getting a fully- funded Ph.D scholarship, I'm being swayed to look in the direction Microbiology again.
Is this move OK sir?

Yes, as far as I'm aware, there are a variety of scholarship opportunities in Chemistry and other science-related fields. With the current pandemic, several funding organisations are diverting funds to study this or potential topics in that corridor, as well as environmental issues.

Too many people are pursuing a PhD these days, either because they want to be called a doctor or because they believe it will help them solve their current problems. However, a PhD programme should go above and beyond that. I wish you luck while you work on it. There are so many fields of applied microbiology research that you can investigate.
