Not in June but it must be increased some day right. If we can solve leadership problem in Nigeria, my country will be heaven on earth. God, please help us out. |

PataAlhajaKeji: I think you are the dumb one here. The mama kamoru in ogbomosho does not enter public transport? If fuel price increase, will public transport not increase? Will prices of goods and services not increase? How Will life be for mama kamoru who is overstretched and already suffering with the increase in cost of living and reduced purchasing power? One major problem in Nigeria is the absence of human feelings. A lot of leaders and people like you in Nigeria are very wicked. For subsidy to go, there must first be a total restructuring of the country into regionalism and resource control. Every region should be independent and manage their resources. They can decide what to do with fuel as it soothes their own developmental goals and strategy. Whether you remove subsidy or not,Nigeria in its present form is bleeped. The partial subsidy removal in the last 4 years, how did it help the people? 6 Likes 1 Share |

SeaTrade: How do you propse we fund subsides, with low revenues from oil, and with a poor tax to gdp ratio? (And don't mention corruption or cutting cost of governance...because the revenues from that can only pay for a certain time till it runs out.) |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by SeaTrade(m): 4:20pm On May 21, 2021 |
tauceti23:By owning our own refineries and employing indians only to run it since as Nigerians are all thieves and not serious with work. I mean even the gateman will be indian cos they ste cheap and effective. Then let me see how we will not have fuel at N200 or close with zero subsidy. |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by Nobody: 4:21pm On May 21, 2021 |
PataAlhajaKeji: That is the harsh fact, and Lord knows i hate it. I so hate the fact that subsidy has to go. I think it is wickedness, and evil. But keeping it means that we keep on spending more and more of our revenue paying for something that at the end of the day goes into the pockets of a few....and prevents more and more investment in our petroleum sector. But what can we do? I wish that APC lost power...but any new government comming in is STILL going to face the same connundrum Subsidy has to go. I don't like it. I don't like saying it. I have been abused well well today for saying it...but it is either subsidy goes, or we go broke in the next one year. |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by Nobody: 4:24pm On May 21, 2021 |
SeaTrade: How do you propose we fund the refineries continued maintenance and upgrade by selling petrol from the refienreis at a 'subsidsied' price below the cost of production and paying a subsidy that covers the difference, not letting the refienreis make a profit? You see the problem...and that's how our NNPC refienreis failed. As hard as it sounds...one has to let the market control the price of fuel....so that the grredy people can make enough of a profit not just to maintain refineres, but pay salaries, taxes, raise salaries, raise pensions, etc etc. It is one thing to build refinereis, but if they are not profitably run, they will crash and burn. |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by SeaTrade(m): 4:27pm On May 21, 2021 |
tauceti23:How do you know selling petroleum at N200/l is below cost price? Are you a refinery owner? How come Saudi has been doing it since and no complaints? Even the US upon their strong currency? |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by Nobody: 4:32pm On May 21, 2021 |
SeaTrade: Saudi 1.produces five times as much crude as we do..if not more 2.For a population of 33 million people, compared to our 200 million people. Comapring us with Saudi is like compariong a two families ...one of the familes has ten children and three dependents and a montly income of N150000, the other has two children and no dependents AND a monthly income of N800000. The family with two kids will live better than the family with ten kids and LESSER income. Saudi can do that because they can afford that. Nigeria can't...unless we produce 20 times more crude than we produce,. and get more revenue subsequently. P.S I don't own a refinery, and my thots on subsidy started around the 1990's when I supported subsidy remaining till 2012 when I changed my mind after reading and thinking PS2...Nigeria has to diversify our economy and widen the tax base for us to afford subsidies. Or oil goes up above our breakeven price of $133 per barrel. |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by SeaTrade(m): 4:37pm On May 21, 2021 |
tauceti23:The bolder is not necessary in this context as Nigeria does not have to buy crude, We can produce as much as we want to feed local refineries for local consumption and still export this same volume we do now and nothing will happen to our petrol income. So I wonder what we will be needing the revenue that you keep talking about to buy When you don't purchase crude ,then know that prices of petroleum will be very cheap, That's how bunkerers have been able to sell cheaper than refineries upon their poor economies of scale. You want to diversify the economy yet you want to increase prices of petrol which produces power for the same buusinessss you want to bring about diversification. Funny. |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by PataAlhajaKeji(m): 4:40pm On May 21, 2021 |
Kenn55: You know nothing. No pain, no gain. The poor ones will suffer some marginal pains now in exchange for future, long-term gains. Have you ever heard of the concept of "Marginality/Marginalism" in Economics? It's probably too advanced for your dull, catarrh-filled brain. The marginal pros of removing subsidy far outweigh the marginal cons. Even the strongest of Buhari's critics accept that subsidy has to go. The economic team of the president which includes seasoned economists like Professor Soludo, Professor Doyin Salami and Birsmark Rewane, has recommended the removal of subsidy. Same as the IMF and world bank but your empty brain thinks otherwise. 1 Like |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by Nobody: 4:49pm On May 21, 2021 |
SeaTrade: No matter how much we try, we cannot produce up to 5million barrels of crude a day, talkess of the ten million barrels Saudi produces. So I wonder what we will be needing the revenue that you keep talking about to buy We are not buying crude, neither did I talk about buying crude...the revenue I was talking about was the revenue earned from the crude we produce We don't produce as much as the Saduis priduce, and even if we did, our populaiton is too high for us to have much left over fr subsides, and refienry repairs and upgrades. That's my point, and you missed it. You want to diversify the economy yet you want to increase prices of petrol which produces power for the same buusinessss you want to bring about diversification. Power supply is a different matter. In brief...since this is out of topic really...power supply in Nigeria is in a bad state because 1.We don't pay as much for power as we should be paying 2.And some people don't pay for power at all. mEANING THAT power is run at a loss....meaning no money for you guessed it upgrades. If you have time, read this. Generators were not meant to be permanent. |
Re: Sylva: No Petrol Price Increase In June by SeaTrade(m): 4:59pm On May 21, 2021 |
tauceti23:And you keep missing a simple point I don't know why. Who told you Nigeria has to produce 10mbpd to keep fuel prices at below 200naira a litre without subsidy? Dangote's refinery that is said to satisfy local consumption and have some to export has just a capacity of 600,000bpd. Doesn't that tell you that all Nigeria needed to have done is beef up production with an extra 450,000bpd which will go to its local refinery and still it will export it's 2mbpd and still earn fx from there? You keep talking about losses and subsidy and I ask you, Why would you need the subsidy when clearly this solves it? The refinery will be maintained very well from its sales proceeds and the operators of these new wells that will produce this extra 450,000bpd can be paid with oil as usual which will come from this same field,so I wonder what you are talking about. How are bunkerers managing their own facilities too when they too sell way below N150/l? Nothing will happen to Nigeria's income and the fuel problem would have been solved. As for power, that is something else as I wasn't talking about it. |
