PataAlhajaKeji: Guy, what Nigeria needs now is not subsidy going. Subsidy shouldn't even be in the first place if we were not running this unproductive system of government. Subsidy is a symptom of a bad system. Make no mistake, I don't fancy subsidy. Whether it goes or not in this current climate will make no positive difference to the common man. What will happen is that the FG and govs will see more money to loot and waste while citizens suffer more. Reasonable Nigerians have been advising the government to cut down the overblown cost of government but they are not interested because they don't want to loose 1 naira. Look at the last budget for a country in dire need of money, does it look like a country ready to make amends? If they can't do the little things to help the situation, do you think it will make a difference if they remove subsidy? By the way, there have been partial subsidy removal in the last 4 years, what have they done with it? The only solution for Nigeria is a complete restructuring of the country to spur productivity. With this, subsidy will die a natural death. Subsidy removal or not does not affect me directly, I don't live in Nigeria. However, I am a human being and it pains me seeing people suffer for nothing while politicians enjoy. 2 Likes |

SeaTrade: Because we might earn the revenue from the 10mbpd that can pay for the subsidy...and even then it isn't enough. Dangote's refinery that is said to satisfy local consumption and have some to export has just a capacity of 600,000bpd. Dangote will get to 300000bpd by 2030...HE won't reach full production immediately. Plus, our petrol needs are growing.....one dangote refinery might not satisfy everyhting 300000bpd will meet about 3/4 of our needs now...that is if all Dangote's refienry does is produce petrol You keep talking about losses and subsidy and I ask you, Subsidy means there is a price control which means fuel is sold below its cost perproduciton of liter...meaning Dangote won't make enough profit to pay for maintaning his refinery. NNPC refienreis failed in part because of the above. As for power, that is something else as I wasn't talking about it. Still read the document...it explains why we use generators. |

SeaTrade: One more thing, even as I have wished you well, your calling me a 'dunce' and 'not very bright' was not right, but downright rude, especially as I thought we were having a discussion, not a 'abuse' match Remember niether of us is in government. What we say here won't infulence government policy . I doubt that I can as I am not an elected official anyway. People are going to disagree with you in life....and calling them 'dunces' when they do gives them a poor opinion of you. 1 Like |
