Bmaster:
Social media promotes nudity these days which in turn promotes the urge for sexual intercourse.
Which somehow promotes self abuse of one's body(masturbation)
Which when not in check may promote one or other two spiritual consequences, which likely includes ruining someone's destiny.
So,pastor is technically right on this
We Rise!
And Jesus Christ is wrong , abi? undecided
This because Jesus Christ instead declares that all the sins you commit, including sin of Lust, come from what is stored up inside your heart, not what you find on social media.

Vaughanlanrewaj:
Social media is social and unlike deep mental thinking content, comes with programmed addictive features. Even Nairaland has been increasing its addictive features over the years to earn more money but there's a social cost we pay for these addictions especially to people in that age range that should use this period for deep mental content and work but using it to grow more toxic, unproductive and unpatriotic .

The activities that birth development and innovation lean heavily on contents that don't fit the software program codes of social media. Add the low hanging content of the social media with poor upbringing, you get the preponderance of the toxic lot here on Nairaland. The social media is profit oriented.
I see things changing and the former ad director of Google is already doing something in that direction https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/16/sridhar-ramaswamy-ex-google-building-ads-free-search-engine-neeva-.html
The educational system is there to help nurture that capacity for deep mental thinking in our kids and so when it is lacking, it is the educational system that should be looked into, not social media which is nothing but ordinary human social interaction, only via a different media than many of us were previously used to. undecided

So where do what you see on social media goes to.

This was the same thing I was telling a female friend some days back. While others are making money via the social media, others are wasting their lives and destinies through it.

So what? undecided

What you describe can be seem as the same way some people spend time hanging with friends, wasting their lives and "destinies" . So, why blame it on social media? undecided

The social media is profit oriented and does not prioritise deep mental thinking. It will actually undo the major milestone of formal education which is highly regimented. If you want a disciplined high performance child, don't expose him/her to use of social media. I know a few high performance youths who don't even use more than LinkedIn and WhatsApp.

They can't even fit into the toxic and low intellectual stimulation here on Nairaland. Nairaland used to be a community of very smart Nigerians like Suraj and co before but the addictive features for more revenue by Seun has matched more the poor choices of low performers who pollute every tread on Nairaland .

If you run ad on Nairaland, you will never get a serious decision maker in A list organisation. They are not here. I did this experiment for a year to find out .They have all left. Ads on Nairaland is just for visibility nothing more .

it is time you start providing backup for claims you continue to make here..

1. Where is your evidence that social media can in fact roll back the "major milestones" of education? undecided

2. The millions of disciplined "high performance" children in the same Nigeria, and world over, who also happen to have very active social media presence are what? Allen's? Cyborgs? undecided

3. Your personal grudge against Nairaland aside, even offline people engage in much similar manner as they do online, so why do you blame social media for that which has nothing to in fact do with social media in and of itself but human social interaction patterns. undecided
Re: Bishop Oyedepo: Social Media Kills Destiny When Used Excessively by justmondris: 7:10pm On May 21, 2021
It’s not the excessive use of social media platforms that kill destiny but when you spend hours on social media doing unproductive things e.g spending 5-10hours daily on social media just to chat with friends.

If you are spending 10-20hours daily on social media to promote your business, you are building your destiny and at the same time, increasing your account balance.

The bottom line of what he is trying to say is that, don’t waste your life on social media.

I already sent you a link to the interview with the former head of Google who is the brain behind the massive success ad revenue by Google. I am sure that you didn't ask me before I sent it and you have not read it ma. I don't have any issue with nairaland. I am proud to tell you that I am perhaps one of the few remaining among the early set of people to use Nairaland when it used to be a community of very smart people ma.

I am a scientist by training so I can not afford to be flippant. Take regimentation out of education and you have nothing left. Social media is not regimented and its first and last objective is profit. Education is life long and comes with delayed gratification. I am telling you that for phenomenal achievements, it doesn't go with social media addiction. Here is a recent report by BBC to achieve great performance when mastering a skill. Please watch this one o ma. https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p086wjwk/the-surprising-psychology-behind-mastering-a-new-skill

I have to go now ma. Thank you so very much for the time. I am grateful. Cheers.

There's nothing spiritual about it ,it's a simple logic. The fact that it's time consuming and energy draining is enough to know that time is money and also many couples have no time for each other due to social media too.

All these reports and postulations of yours mean nothing as far as this topic is concerned. The problem highlighted here has more to do with deficiencies in the educational system. undecided

I asked a girl recently, I said you're always online, what are you doing? she said she enjoys view post and chatting. The same girl was with me sometime ago, we were just discussing issue related to business, gbam! She started operating her phone leaving be and letting me talk to myself.
I was like joy hope you know this is not good we are still discussing, she said she need to reply the person immediately. Na so discussion take end between me and joy, I hate to talk or correct a matured adult about what he/she already know is bad.

Take a cue... it means you were boring company for her at that moment! undecided

There is no need to blame social media for that. Obviously she is more interested in the online discussion than whatever it was you were yapping about. If she had been interested, she would have given you more of her attention. undecided

The brain is a very interesting machine. No be say she no like you, just that her brain was not registering with whatever it as you were saying or doing at that time. lipsrsealed

Wait until it happened to you, whatever thing you're discussing won't make meaning to these set of people.
All they want to be looking at every moment is that sister or brother leaving internet life "fake life", then start to copy them.

It happens a lot to me,only that mine is on a whole another level than the one you describe there. Most folks out there are living lives that are, to them,under-stimulating and so they look for the stimulation they desire or crave anywhere, including online, that is why it seems that social media is to blame blame even such things as masturbation. undecided

You get the same person either on mental illness treatment(stimulants for example) or in an environment where the brain is properly stimulated and you will see him/her even forget that online even exists. undecided
