eedimo:This isn't about being blocked head. If you are initiating redundancy, you pay off the affected employees their due. Non-productivity isn't a crime that you have to shove them out without pay. |

Basher8583:But what makes them redundant in the first place? I think KDSG should change her approach on this issue, the poor workers can be train and make them useful for the state instead of laying them off . |

eedimo:You're simply an idiot! Why did he wait till now to downsize when the cash flow from oil has dwindled? Why didn't he do it at the start of his government when money was flowing in well, if he truly wants to do great things for his people? Calling anyone who responds to your crap a nincompoop is why I called you an idiot. Prove to me you aren't! |

chrisblack:stop being arrogantly myopic..yes govt cant sustain the culture, but why not pay dem their benefits so that they can move on...some have spent more than 20 years in the service and you just want to throw them out just like that? let's be reasonable for once pls |
| Re: El-Rufai Insists On Downsizing Workforce by MrHighSea: 8:24am On May 23, 2021 |
chrisblack:Nigerians are highly sympathetic and emotional when it comes to issues like this. The hatred they have for him and his loved ones might triple. We know the truth but are not strong-willed to takes action and anybody that does is tagged wicked. There are redundant staff at the same time some departments are understaffed. why should secretaries in hospitals be more than Doctors and Nurses combined? why should security and messengers in a university be more than Technologist+lecturers? He should've assessed other routes of relieving the workforce of "sit and talk" staff. Maybe placed an embargo on employment, forceful retirement of those close to retirement and paying them their entitlement, check for ghosts. Even in our little capacities to make things work, you'll receive letters signed with green ink tire. I gave up, let things keep falling apart. |
| Re: El-Rufai Insists On Downsizing Workforce by kunle75(m): 8:24am On May 23, 2021 |
TheRealestGuy:I will not dignify this argument with more responses again, until the governor make it public that the retrenched workers won't be paid their entitlement after been disengaged before I can say otherwise. The outcry looks like a pre-emptive public response to one of the governors characters but in the meantime I personally will give him the benefit of the doubt on his intended plan's. But most government of the world are yielding from hiring more workforce but rather employing more tech in delivering governance and providing enabling environment. |

Next time in their second life when they hear El rufai them go run. Nigerian electorates to me remains the major problem of this country and the politicians have studied them well to take advantage of their mind poverty and ignorance to improve the misgovernance adventure. Election time you will see Nigerians who earn decent income still fighting for three cups of Rice and 1,000 naira to vote for the wrong man or woman. Only few study the terrain well. In advanced clime , people like El rufai shouldn't smell any political office based on what he did in Abuja in the name of urbanization of Abuja through his demonic master plan which was left abadoned. Fashola is a classical example if radical change with results. He demolished shops in Oshodi though people lost their source of livelihood but today we are more greatful for the sanity he brought to Oshodi. Nigeria will continue to downside in results and achievements as long as the people empower this politicans occupy positions meant for noble men and women. |

Mr El Rufai, Kaduna State workforce are people's father , mother , brothers and family not just mere statistics Yes El Rufai is right, and NLC are equally right But covid 19 economy requires common sense and kindness, not hasty rash behaviour |

While the fear of the unknown gives us anxieties, there is bright light at the end of the tunnel for all the affected. |
| Re: El-Rufai Insists On Downsizing Workforce by omohayek: 8:35am On May 23, 2021 |
Nauttyprof:This is a nonsensical argument for doing nothing. Yes, all those other issues matter too, but that doesn't mean El Rufai has to handle everything at once or nothing at all. |
| Re: El-Rufai Insists On Downsizing Workforce by omohayek: 8:39am On May 23, 2021 |
Coldshisha:No, El Rufai is right, and the NLC is completely wrong. There is simply no justification for a tiny percentage of the entire state's populace benefiting from most of the state government's revenues, even as that tiny sliver mostly sits around doing nothing but gossiping, embezzling and engaging in absenteeism. You conveniently ask us to only think of the relatives of the redundant civil servants, while completely ignoring the far larger number of ordinary citizens who lose basic healthcare, education, roads, streetlights, clean water and much else to pay these lucky few to sit around on their backsides. |
| Re: El-Rufai Insists On Downsizing Workforce by Coldshisha: 8:49am On May 23, 2021 |
omohayek:You are very ignorant of how the economy of a civil servant , allocation dependant state like Kaduna works 13 billion wage bill ultimately goes to traders, farmers, land Lords and Kaduna indegenes... Go to Kaduna markets to confirm this during month end It's a shame to call a worker redundant when you can utilise them better to make health care sector, education and basic infrastructure better During Economic recession US and China would rather hire more workers to build infrastructure, housing and new cities for future just to get people paid and stimulate the economy |
| Re: El-Rufai Insists On Downsizing Workforce by spinzagom(m): 8:49am On May 23, 2021 |
And you think it's the right approach to sack already existing work force? This same man will still employ, if not times two of the number of people you think he is downsizing. Watch out when his tenure is less than a year and see wonders. chrisblack: |

AnanseK:The Government of El Rufai is redundant because they lack Basic Idea in generating Wealth...all they know how to do is Share the Money (national cake). Is It the wish of the workers to be redundant ..why dont u create State manufacturing industries like Agro allied industries and packed all the redundant workers there for productivity and if any one still remain redundant after positive engagement then u can retrench him... |

| Re: El-Rufai Insists On Downsizing Workforce by omohayek: 8:57am On May 23, 2021 |
Coldshisha:No, I studied economics for several years, to graduate level, so I'm not about to take lectures on "ignorance" from somone who couldn't tell the difference between supply and indifference curves. Your argument above is simply nonsensical special pleading: it's not El Rufai's job to find a better way to utilise a redundant civil servant, that's the job of the private sector, where the redundant are free to seek out employers better suited to utilise whatever skills they have. As for the US and China you refer to, you clearly know absolutely nothing about either country, as in both reduction in the size and scope of the public sector have been key factors in their economic policies over the last 40 years. Ever heard of Deng Xiaoping or Ronald Reagan? Your staggering levels of ignorance and laughable inability to reason suggest to me that you yourself are one of those worthless civil "servants" sucking at the public purse while providing no service of any value whatsoever, which is why you find El Rufai's actions so threatening. The only reason you parasites have been able to flourish for so long is due to the federal allocation system, because no state supported mostly by taxes would have its residents willing to tolerate your existence for very long. Nigerian government revenues are for the benefit of all Nigerians, not just the few of you who have managed to find pretend-work through a "kinsman" or political godfather somewhere. |

It is a known fact that the civil service is over bloated with too many redudant staff. Some don't even have, or know their job description. However, since you are laying them off, what alternate provision have you put in place for them? Remember, government is about the people and their welfare! Secondly, the head of parastatals, directors, political appointees and other cost of running governance which we all know is overbearing, what have you done to cut it down? The approach should be a holistic, wholistic one! Stop all the big big grammar and unnecessary propaganda and think about your people's welfare Mr Governor! |

I'm not a fan of El - Rufai or any fulani man for that, but I must say that what he is trying to do is what every state in Nigeria, including Federal Government, must do for the nation as a whole to progress. Anyone who has ever visited states ministries and local government Secretariats can attest to the fact that there are millions of unproductive people everywhere who are just receiving salaries for doing nothing ! Redundant and incompetent people everywhere you go ! I support what El - Rufai is trying to do in Kaduna but he must give the reform a human face by providing soft landings for the workers to be disengaged. People cannot be receiving pay cheques for doing absolutely nothing while same people expect their states to progress and develop ! When 85% or more of any state revenue is expended on recurrent expenditure, does anyone expect physical development to just fall from the heaven ? Ordinarily, governments at any level are not supposed to be the major employers of labour as it is being done here in Nigeria but they are supposed to be facilitators of employment by providing supports and enabling environment for private organizations to employ people. I don't like El - Rufai, but he is right on this one ! |

kunle75:You are really don't know what's happening, do some fxcking research! He has retrenched workers for a few years and refused to pay them their entitlements. You are here waiting for the governor to make it public? Are you joking? Kaduna people have been crying out about this and you say it is pre-emptive? Please before commenting on public issues do some findings so you don't sound stupid on a public forum. Enjoy your weekend. |
