Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is factually correct. Boka Haram were peaceful agitators until Nigeria's security forces, primarily the police started killing their members extrajudicially.

They turned violent when the same fate befell their founder Yusuf Mohammed.

What you sort to spin here is the obvious fact that the northern establishment proceeded to co-opt Boko Haram into a political tool until they grew uncontrollable.

That they cannot decisively engage against them today, first is because most notherners know that it is their kits and kin who are inflicting these pain on the people and therefore sympathetic to them. Second, they do not want to be outed by their partners in terrorism.
