The judge, in her conclusion below, is clearly chastising State Governors to go and act as they already have the power to do rather than be wasting the time of the court with frivolities.

Southern Governors should stop being cowards and political slaves to begin putting their people first not Buhari or what pleases the President and his regressive cabal consisting the likes of Malami, Pantami etal.

There you have it. The ZOOGERIA court had affirmed the anti grazing law that had been on the books for ages now. The COWARD southern governors would have NO MORE EXCUSES for NOT upholding the law.

That's good. I think its high time these Fulani individuals stayed on their own. They can tell their governors to provide ranches for them. They have adequate land mass. So why can't they stay on their own??

Southerners say they don't want, stay on your own.

Jesus Christ. I have never seen these kind of people before

Stay on their own, for where? Impossible!! It's in their gene to subdue and dominate either by hook or by crook. That's what Nnamdi Kanu has been preaching to you all since, but everyone is dismissing his assertions. Now it's becoming obvious, what the agenda of the fulanis are.

You must be a fulani person from your perspective tone....
You aren't happy at all, anyways we in the entire southern Nigeria says no no to indescriminate movement of cow in our land period....

Indeed. Everything is about precedence in Nigeria capable of curtailing impunity going forward
. The judgement is needed and encouraging as an official signal to inform leaders and followers about the position of the law vis a vis the ban on open grazing of Cattle.

Even if Buhari, Malami, Miyetti Allah etal may wish to subvert the position of the law , to uphold their pro-Fulani agenda, they will now be discredited doing so in the eyes of the world.

Same Malami tried to fight the SW over the establishment of Amotekun but he had to beat a hasty retreat when Akeredolu showed him he is a proper lawyer and deserving SAN rather than a quota system charge and bail local champion promoted far above his station because of nepotism and ethnocentric prejudice.

Again Akeredolu challenged Malami, after his silly comparison of spare parts sales to Cow grazing, to meet him in Court.

Obviously Akeredolu being a proper lawyer already knows , as Judge Ijeoma Ojukwu predictably delivered, how a competent court would rule.

Lesson to all of us is that we need to put petty differences aside to begin challenging the backward North and putting them in their place even if only for the sake of our generations unborn.

Open grazing ban in South irreversible, Akeredolu replies Malami

The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has tackled the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Shehu Malami, for faulting the ban placed on open grazing in the Southern part of the country.

The Southern Governors had at a meeting in Asaba last week banned open grazing and asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to address the nation over the increasing rate of insecurity in the country.

However, Malami who appeared as a guest on Channels Television on Wednesday faulted the ban, arguing that the governor had no right to do that.

Akeredolu, who is the Chairman of Southern Governors’ Forum, spoke in a statement he personally signed on Thursday, titled, ‘Our decision is irreversible and will be enforced’.

He asked the AGF to challenge the governor’s position on open grazing in court,
adding that Malami’s comments were “unfortunate and wicked”.

Mr Malami is advised to approach the court to challenge the legality of the Laws of the respective States baning open grazing and decision of the Southern Governor Forum taken in the interest of their people. We shall be most willing to meet him in Court.

Governors have the power to enforce it. The problem is that the police who will carry out its execution is being controlled by the FG. The police personnel are being ordered from Abuja to sit on the fence while state security groups like Amotekun and co only have the power to arrest and handover suspects to the same compromised police. This is the reason we need state police with relatively absolute power over cases like this.

State and zonal security networks need power to arrest, detain, prosecute, and imprison criminals not the nonsense transfer to compromised federal controlled polce and prison officers.

Grayoso:

Same here. However it goes down, Southerners should get informed so we can determine when and how we have been betrayed by our leaders so that we can punish them accordingly.

Clearly we now see that Governors have the power to enforce the ban they agreed on against open grazing.

It will be interesting to note, from this point on, the Governors who show they respect the wellbeing of their people more than any commitment to pleasing Buhari and his ruling cabal. In my head I can only think of Ortom and Akeredolu because of what both have done bravely so far.

Imagine Miyetti Allah directing their members and herders to ignore the open grazing ban of the 17 Southern Governors. What arrogance !!!

The nerve of those people. Clever folks know that if the South does not resist and defy them, as Akeredolu's is insisting, then Fulanis will be further emboldened to behave with impunity safe in the belief they own Nigeria and that Buhari, Malami etal can protect them from anything and anyone to include the laws of Nigeria.

Totally agree and this is the next important fight. All 17 Southern Governors demanded State policing and immediate restructuring of Nigeria.

We must support their effort anyway we can because we know the North will never support progressive policies and initiatives willingly. They have to be forced to accept them by people power.

This is what the entire South should March on the street for and even lay siege on the NASS complex in Abuja to achieve.

My guy I wonder oooh. Animal husbandry that has being made a precise science worldwide still has to be practised at the most basic, archaic, disruptive and nuisance level in the biggest black nation on Earth because of Fulanis alone who refuse to change their ways and accept modern practices.

If not for sinister and hidden agendas why not simply modernise practices in a sector that is completely private and driven by profit?

Why must the entire Nigeria accept a status quo of Fulani marching their Cows everywhere on highways, causing chaos, and into private farms to destroy crop yield and threaten the food security of Nigeria?

Why are we all hostages to this madness? Even with this judgement many cowardly Southern governors will still fear upsetting Buhari and 'his people' instead of acting in the best interest of their own people.

If the agric ministry is serious they should have at least use the =N=30m to build or give as startup to herders to build ranches.

Something you may want to know is most of these herders don't own the cows, they just herd them for some individuals.

And these individuals are usually wealthy enough to buy land and feed for their cows, even if it means the cost of beef would increase.

Bro, we should not even put this on any Government Ministry. This situation is purely the fault of the North and their backward, indolent and government-dependent thinking.

Cattle rearing is a very profitable private business. You cannot get a Cow leg free anywhere so why must Government be held responsible for it's modern transformation and success?

Why can the many rich men and businesses in the North, like the Dangotes, Buas etal, not enter into partnership with herders and cattle readers to establish modern and organised ranches that would yield even far greater profit, with export options, than being realized currently?

Can those who buy literally thousands of expensive AK47 assault rifles for Fulani herdsmen not spend the same money on modern ranches and distribution/export depots where guns will not be needed?

Problem I have with the North is that they never believe in rising up proactively and innovatively to tackle their problems without making it the headache of the rest of us.

Their 'begging bowl' behaviour must stop. I have never been given anything free in Nigerian Market so why should profitablr livestock or food crop farming, in this day and age, be something the Government must be tasked to fund or lead when the FG, at most , should be supportive and a provider of limited subsidy where needed?

This is an opportunity for the North to come together and support a ranching revolution that can make many young Northerner millionaire Cattle rearers and ranchers. Instead they want to arrogantly cling to disruptive grazing so they can continue to roam vagrantly and disturb all other parts of Nigeria where settled existence is the norm.

We all saw Sanwo Olu roll out the Lagos 5 year agricultural road map. What the fck are Northern leaders and Governors waiting for? If it is to defend the right of herders to carry AK47 then they are quick to talk as we saw Bala Mohammed do. To put their money where their mouth is to save Nigeria , and even themselves, they refuse to do.

The decision also implies that the State Governors should be the ones enforcing anti-grazing laws"- This is what is most important!
Calling her a Buhari stooge is in bad taste!-
She gave a diplomatic judgement which is enough to morally encourage the governors to enforce their state laws!

Respectfully you're wrong. As is 90% of everyone commenting on this post which is scary.
Let me explain. Firstly the state governors do not need moral encouragement. They and their legal representatives fully understand the law. The judge was not telling them anything new regarding the grazing ban.

Secondly to quote you "a diplomatic judgement" is no judgement. Because she was playing safe which reaffirms my earlier criticism.

Let me break it down for you and others as to what this case is about.

A law suit was brought by representatives of Southern governors.
The suit was brought about because the grazing ban was ineffective.
The ban was ineffective because herders were not obeying it and security agencies were not enforcing it.
The governors were unable to do anything because they do not control security agencies.
The governors do not control agencies because there is no state police in Nigeria.
There is no state police in Nigeria because the Nigerian constitution made the Police under federal control.
The governors out of frustration had hoped through the law suit would force the president to do the needful.

Instead of helping the Southern governors the judge essentially threw the case out citing numerous errors in legal process.

The crux of the matter is that herders are flouting and disobeying the law. The security agencies are not doing their jobs. The governors do not have the legal powers to force them to do their jobs. The judgement has not helped nor shed light on how this can be resolved.

I hope you all understand now.

There is always a solution if there is a will!
I am more interested in the solution than the legal mumbo-jumbo!
The governors of the South and East now have legalized state security outfits. They just need to recruit more hands, and also, give more support to existing local vigilante groups, already present in all local governments, and pronto, the job is done...
There is evidence that "Amotekun" is already active in this area in ondo...
The governors don't have to wait for the herders' kinsmen in Aso Rock to instruct federal security agencies to enforce state laws....they might wait foreversmiley
