And then I turned to Jesus THE WAY IN TO GOD AND OUT OF SIN, he came, set me free and now I stand close to 13 solid years, no masturbation, no pornography no sex, and yet I'm single, basking in the grace of God.

OP don't struggle with smoking, don't even make resolution to stop, like a child simply take it to Jesus, tell him how helpless you are, how u have failed and continues to fail without him.

Finally trust him, I'll be praying along with u.

BESETTING SINS (Hebrews 12:1)
1. What is a besetting sin?

a. The phrase “easily beset” comes from a Greek word which means, “that which easily encircles or entangles, like a loose flowing robe.”

b. The runners in ancient times would lay aside even their under garments so as not to be impeded

c. Thus, the Hebrew writer is pleading for Christians to lay aside every hindrance in living the Christian life, especially those sins which, like inner garments, cling so close to us

d. Thus, besetting sins are sins which hinderingly cling so close to us and are so easily committed

2. What are some areas from which arise besetting sins?

a. Besetting sins may be those in which we indulged before obeying the Gospel, such as lying, gambling, cursing, cheating ….

b. Besetting sins may be those in which we are drawn to due to our temperament, such as pride, laziness, skepticism, or stubbornness

c. Besetting sins may be those to which we are exposed by our profession

1) Admittedly, there are greater temptations in some professions than others

2) The man who washes dishes in a cafe or mows lawns is not in a position to lie as would a certain salesman.

d. Besetting sins may be those in which we are particularly vulnerable due to weakness

1) The non-smoker has to fight less he revert back to his harmful habit

2) The alcoholic must fight to keep from drinking alcohol

3) The kleptomaniac struggles not to steal

3. Now be honest. What is your besetting sin?

a. Is it some habit? – the lottery? smoking? drinking?

b. Is it some attitude? – prejudice? over-tolerance? envy?

c. Is it some sin of the tongue? – gossip? lying? Filthy speech?

d. Misplaced affection? – money? pleasure? preeminence?

e. Is it a sin of the flesh? – unlawful sex? lust? petting?

Yes ... I was once snug in that shoe bro, infact I know how you feel but to be honest I made my way out.. I won't bore you with my stories but I will straight up tell you what I did and you could try ...

First smoking weed in my opinion is not bad if done under control and with a purpose, in my case I just did it to get the buzz and once it was going down I will fire up again .. then one day I started hating how I was but I was far gone into it.

Anyway you have to realize you are 4 beings in one.

You are soul, spirit, body and mind. The highest being the soul and lowest being the mind.

Soul and spirit is your link to God, your body and mind your link to the world.

Your mind is usually the instigator of your desires and craving and mostly it can convince your body to act upon it even against the wish of your soul or spirit. That is reason why you feel guilty for doing certain things becasue your be-ing don't align. This is just a concept to help explain my approach.

Now your mind is a slave to the rest but If you are on auto pilot, your mind is hardwired to take the lead, just like a driver who must keep a car full of leaders moving or they all die ... and the Leaders are all sleeping except the driver who has no instructions on directions... He will just keep driving anywhere he likes till oga wake up and tell him where to go.

But as soon as you wake up and start to put your mind in its place you will start to have some control. So if you want to stop smoking, just shine the spotlight on your mind and begin to control it, when you have the feeling to smoke take a second to realize what you are feeling at that moment and understand that is your mind craving for a state of be-ing, and it is trying to convince your body to come along. Then like a father, hold it back and direct your mind to some place else. Endure whatever complain your body gives you, it is am expirience. Within a short period your mind will give in and you will briefly forget about it ... But surely it will come up again ..rinse and repeat .. do this for a week and your mind will by this time know not to bother you with that. Beware tho... Once in a while the mind will use nostalgia against you so be prepared way ahead. Once the nostalgia starts ... Don't entertain it. You will be fine.

Now this is my approach to navigating the world generally and if not I would have fallen victim to many vices. Peace bro you can do it !!! Get that monkey off your back !!!

One of the best thing that could ever happen to any man is marijuana. I love it especially for tea and bread with correct egg sauce. When you use it on vegetable soup or indomie na confirm too.

I don't enjoy the smoking part but as fresh as the leafs for food, the dried leafs for tea.

Have a big bowl, put sands in it and plant it in your house the same they plant flowers and just enjoy yourself all the time. You are steady on a high mood. Never a dull moment.

Op, you don't know what you are saying if you haven't enjoyed MJ the way it should be. Use MJ this way and you can stop smoking it.

I've got no guilt whatsoever, smoking joint under observation is no crime at all, neither is it a sin. I follow only the ultimate rule "do unto others what you want for yourself"

Don't beat yourself up anytime you see yourself falling back to it. Just know that you are still loved by God despite the mistake and that he is still with you because the devil will always want to use the guilt to make you feel you are far from God but always rebuke that spirit that tells you, you are far from God. But try as much as you can to avoid taking it and avoid areas that contribute to you wanting to take and maintain a strong prayer life with the habit as you prioritised prayer point .

This person is talking about an addiction.
Think of the struggle he has found himself and the state of his mind.
All you need to do is pray for him to find happiness.

I must really thank you for this and for your journey through the help of the Holy Spirit.

I have had exactly a problem with an 'addiction' too (though not on weed) which seems to be the only stumbling block between my God and I. I struggled with it for over 10 years and at a point in time gave up on the struggle.

The way God orchestrated my deliverance I know, was by divine intervention. It happened within a jiffy of an eye! I know by the grace of God I am over it and now have peace with God.

In essence, those things cannot be done by one's efforts or abilities. It takes God through the help of the Holy Spirit. Those who knows, will understand.

In Conclusion

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Galatians 5:16-18 KJV.

I did not know this will get to the front page... I just came back from church and met my mentions in a mess.

I see a lot of people saying 'weed is good, weed is better than bla bla bla' In the words of stereo man ekwe, if e good for your head... if e no good.... This people won't tell ya the time they've struggled to quit, and of course, it is an addiction that makes you give up, because quitting after years of use is almost impossible, at least with human strength,

I used and abused weed for seven years, from April 2013, till, 2 January 2021. I was not your average weed smoker, Infact one of the reason I was so into the habits was because I was 'fairly successful in academics and career later on. but early 2020, I began to think about my life, I began to think about the habits (I was also masturbating, indulging in premarital sex, alcohol and identifying as a cultist), I began to also experience spiritual attack, and I also tried repairing my relationship with God.

But the more I tried getting closer to God the more the devil used my habits to inhibit me. So I was seeking ways to kill of the flesh and make my body a living sacrifice, first I quit masturbation.. (for those seeking to quit pls join this thread https://www.nairaland.com/5223408/masturbation-quitting-challenge-thread). my journey is well detailed there. by God's grace june this year will be one year since I quit masturbating.
When I quit masturbating, my spiritual life improved, in fact God was answering my prayers and I began to feel his move. From April when I first made this thread, I continued praying and asking him to help me. I recognized that there was a spirit behind it, that was bigger than me.
Infact when the spirit behind weed calls you, you must answer!! mine was really chronic.

To those saying Marijuana is not a sin, let me tell you. Marijuana is an idol! when you start smoking, you wrap all your life around it. it becomes a mini-god. It also opens you up to various vices and influences, opens you up to people that are not your level, makes your mind a fertile ground for thoughts that are not from God.
It defaces you, it replaces your God-given looks and identity with something haggard. Excepct you don't desire to be close to God, then you can continue.


Around October , God gave me a new Job which was prayers answered, and I knew I was beginning to step into the a higher phase in Life, one which would not entertain the habit. at this time I was also a heavy Cigarette smoker. I made a decision to quit by 2020, and not take it to the new year! in fact when I told someone here on NL that I was depending solely on the holy spirit, he made jest of me and asked that I check into rehab. I continued praying. At night I will tell God that I am refusing to be an instrument of the devil, that I wanted him to change me and use me the way he did for SAUL in the bible. I will even challenge him , to see that I have never mudered anyone, but yet he used Paul, an ex-murderer. Then I spoke to Pastor I met here on NL about the habit (WinnersMOG). The man asked me if I was filled with the holy Ghost. I told him yes, but it seems I've lost it all through these months of smoking. He told me , that the thought is from the devil. That, Infact I should start speaking in tongues immediately. I remember his words clearly. 'A body that is carrying Fire of the Holy ghost Cannot smoke'.
I commenced praying in the Holy Ghost! mehn, my spiritual life assumed a newer dimension when I did. I felt connected in the spirit. this was between 18-23 December. Infact I started hearing that still voice of guidance from the holy spirit



By December 31st, I smoked my last weed and cig( or so I thought),. Than January 1st, I invited a guy I met at a smoking joint, who also wanted to quit and he was a Christian too. When he came to my house for the New year , behold he brought 'loud'. the devil is a liar sha. I spoke to myself ' what sort of temptation is this'. Then we smoked actually, and I went to the kitchen to prepare rice, as I was in the kitchen cooking food, the spirit of the Lord ministered to me in a still voice. "When you go into that room , break every bondage of smoking in the name of JESUS' Declare that , that day is the last time you will meet and smoke'

I took the food into the room and we began to eat,just as we were eating, we left the dropped our spoons, I can't explain how it happened, but the food was still plenty, and we broke into prayers. for the next 20 mins I prayed for the holy ghost to come and remove the yoke and brethren, behold it was broken!

From that moment till tomorrow, the urge to smoke completely died!! I am not only someone who is free from addiction, I am now a threat to the kingdom of darkness, I have conquered the vices that the devil use to hold young men down and I am now bringing people to the house of God! Hallelujah!

I stopped smoking immediate I was given a prophecy not to, unfortunately all the things promised to me when I was told to stop didn't show...still broke with a lot of projects on hand, bills and all the rest, yet I still don't smoke.
Sometime I feel like smoking cause, (you know how the high is naw) but hear I am, the fool that still believes in God's word, even tho all around me, it is clear that being bad= being rich.

I was tired of reading your write up because you were speaking too many truth that many ignorant weed takers cannot comprehend. Believe me I am very happy for you.

I must also beg you not to go back to your past - the lust of the flesh because these are the works and nature of the devils

I know many guyz who ran mental (madness) because of weed and I could write you pages upon pages but you have said it all.

The spirit of God keep speaking to you and you have obey His voice

I was a chronic smoker, I smoked all Colorado, sk, AZ, weed, all combination if I don't smoke I can't eat nor function well back in school people that smoke fear me because mine is always stronger mixed with things, some called me burna, drogo, exhaust, dragon and many more to show how chronic I was I smoked before going to church, school, work, to meet my uncles but something happened I became a born again, I couldn't stop it on my own so I prayed to God to help me plus my other addictions, I reduced it and some days without untill I stopped it completely, I happened once to be with smokers but wasn't moved and now it irritates me if someone like me can you too can

There was a time in my life I was addicted to internet porn. I must tell you that Internet porn is the greatest of all evil that proceed from the devils. Watching Internet porn will open the doors for demons of lust to possess me. These devils will give me the urge to masturbate and when I refuse they will torment me with sexual hornyness beyond my control.

If I masturbate I will be free from torment but if I refuse to masturbate I will be tormented all day long.

How did i become free from pornography:= mastubation? I saw troubles of life that made me to forget pornography and mastubation. Now it has been 10 years I havr not watch porn or mastubate.

You can compare this to smoking.

Smoking will eat you up and eat your spiritually life.

Smoking will deprive you from God blessings.

You have free will of choice: choose wisely

You made a wrong choice to smoke. You made a mistake and mistake have consequences. Satan has release millions of demons to lure many youth into smaking and gambling. The devils will not force you, they will only surggest an tell you to do something then you obey and they take possession of you and your life completely.

*Smoking will prevent God from being close to you.

2) Lock yourself indoor and pray (fire prayer) volently everyday inside your house for just one month ( the fire) that will descend on you will chase the smoking demons away.

I was a chronic smoker, I smoked all Colorado, sk, AZ, weed, all combination if I don't smoke I can't eat nor function well back in school people that smoke fear me because mine is always stronger mixed with things, some called me burna, drogo, exhaust, dragon and many more to show how chronic I was I smoked before going to church, school, work, to meet my uncles but something happened I became a born again, I couldn't stop it on my own so I prayed to God to help me plus my other addictions, I reduced it and some days without untill I stopped it completely, I happened once to be with smokers but wasn't moved and now it irritates me if someone like me can you too can

Hi guys. Wow never knew there would be a day I'd be posting on this side of the forum. Glory be to God.

I'm finding my paths to spirituality. My goal has always been to establish a relationship, a Communion with God. Knowing that he is with me and hearing my prayers ...

But I've been struggling with Marijuana addiction. And the devil often use this addiction to remind me of how far I am from God's grace. Even in the middle of prayers .

It's unfortunate that I've made the habit a must do in my life and it is difficult to quit. Always thought a job could help me but I find myself using it as an escape to work stress.

I'm at a point where I feel that this habit is the only thing separating me from God's entire will in my life. I have deep convictions that I have a ministry to fulfill. I have faith that it will soon be a thing of the past , as I continually seek God's intervention.

Guys who has been in my shoes before? How did you overcome? How do you deal with the recurrent guilt ?

I still don't smoke.
And yes he does speak to me. It's the doing am worries about. Sometime I just wander why he let's all that so called bad people have it all. It looks as if he just rewards all those who go against what he says they should do.
I can point to so many of them. And those that follow they Lord.? Their suffering no be here.

I am sorry but all you have stated here is a lie and not according to the Word of God, Jesus Christ, the Law we are called to abide by.

This man struggled with an addiction.... it could have been an addition to food even. And you know this from reading him teling you that he also had other addictions he fought with, even as he fought against this other habit.

Smoking is not a sin as Jesus Christ made it clear in His teachings to us. If there be any sin in this case, it would be the lust in his heart that one could say drove him to making an idol out of mere passing activities. But I hold off on labeling them his sin since he never did get evaluated by a doctor to ensur4 he does not have a mental illness that makes him prone to addictive behaviour.

.nah I take exception. Smoking is a sin because you will always be addicted to an extent. Trying to separate both the addiction/idolatry is not practical or logical
