It was the roof that got destroyed due to wild wind, the roof had issues for the past one year plus, and the government didn't remedy it then, until this incident took place.

imagine failing to build a roof with a state gov budget. Okorocha was really his own biggest deceiver.

Not on this ICC, my brother. I passed there severally and even went towards the Museum in the opposite street. The roofs during those times were standard enough.

Except there's something that happened to it after he left, probably it was partially destroyed after he left office, cos if not, it doesn't make sense for the roof I've always seen there to JUST COLLAPSE

I hope Uzodimma is seeing what Lagos state is doing with Okada riders. There have been reports that same set of hausa riders have now flooded Owerri... Please, let's nip it in the bid before it escalates o

planting trees and creating concrete slabs at least a metre in length from the covered drains (this will take care of sand getting on our roads) will go a long way, but it won't be like the pictures you showed.

1) There is the question of effective waste management that bedevils most Nigerian cities.Landfills no longer cut it,we need to begin setting up recycling plants.

2) like I said earlier, since it's obvious that the North won't allow a restructuring anytime soon, our politicians should Looby for an infrastructural fund like what Biden is proposing in America. The money Nigeria spent in developing a brand new Abuja would have brought kano, onitsha,ph etc to the level of lagos at least. Imagine the 1 trillion Buhari spent to fight insurgency was spent on infrastructure ? That's the secret lagos hold over other states. The spend heavily on infrastructure.

3) For our cities to reach European standard, we need visionary leaders and of course, stronger land use laws and enforcement.

Salient points you've raised.

Covered drainages alone sef will reduce the number of sand on our roads, which in itself has a way of adding beauty to the road. There is beauty in looking at/driving on a sand free road.

It's more annoying that in this present dispensation, Imo doesn't even have a waste management agency. I've shared my story here of how I tried setting up one for paper waste in FUTO and was frustrated during Rochas tenure. I was told the government had plans to do such and isn't ready to allow any private individual, unfortunately, years later, nothing of such have been done.

Paper wastes from the higher institutions littered in Owerri can be recycled into tissue paper... This will create at least 100 jobs... From those who'll work in the company proper to those who'll be involved in recycling the waste, to the those who'll want 5o be marketers for the company.

There is also a German company with the technology to break down final end wastes and convert into plastics for production of plastic products. Their video is on YouTube.

Iron wastes can be sold to iron companies in Asaba, while agricultural wastes from our markets could be used in biogas production which will be used to supply light to those markets.

ALL GOVERNMENT HAVE TO DO IS TO ALLOW PRIVATE INVESTORS, knowing fully well that they can't do everything

For markets, modern markets can be built to replace the rowdy markets we have in various local governments in Imo. Idea can be drawn from the one built by then Gov. Almakura of Nasarawa state in Lafia (Lafia neighborhood market), 2hich was fenced, had parking spaces, security at both exit and entrance, God drainage system and even banks had mini branches inside it

Okada is banned in owerri since 2009 and Keke in 2016. So that cannot be our problem.
Hope is proposing BRT service in the final phase of urban renewal project.

Well, I haven't been home for some time. That means the stories I'm told about okadas in Owerri and being ridden by Hausa men must be lies then... Thanks

I spent a lot of time moving around Owerri from Sunday to Monday because of the issue of insecurity in Owerri because there were rumors that people are afraid to move around the city and police officers are no longer staying on their duty post. But those rumors are all lies, in fact is like people are flocking into the city everyday by day and people are building more and more as if they didn't witness convid19. There's new hotel opposite rockview hotel, I think that building must be hotel. I like the fact that it's gonna be a high rise building at six floor already. I would have taken a lot of pictures but due to harsh weather so I couldn't do so. I will keep on lamenting about the poor situation of those inland Bridges that connects old Owerri to new Owerri especially the assumpta avenue to warehouse junction back of Mbari kitchen and the river bank those places is an eyesore, one to two billion can turn those places to something else but rochas and hope will be busy constructing and reconstructing roundabouts, rochas wasted alot of money erecting pillars on the streets, nonsense

You're right about the inland roads, the bridge collapsed, Ministry of works has captured it, in it's next phase of reconstruction.
As for the building opposite Rockview hotel, I thought it will be office complex or shopping plaza. Do you know the purpose of that new 5floor building along bank road?

Owerri son into property development. His coy is international, but this is what his Landmark Grp has established in Lagos. Quite impressive....at a point i was wondering if this was actually Lagos, or some place else. shocked

Hope he also considers Owerri for something similar.....or any place else in the east.

spent most of 2019-2020 living in owerri and I can categorically tell you that hausa okada riders operate at oji axis, owerri north lga axis (umuori,MCC road etc) and some outer areas.Anyone telling you otherwise is a lier.
with the ban in lagos and Uzodinma's Northern connection more will troop into the axis around owerri

I was once sympathetic and welcoming of northern muslims to the east....especially given what was and still is happening in the north east! We Igbos are the most fair-minded and welcoming people you could ever hope to live amongst (even despite what we’ve been put through in this country from the late 60s to date)! However, my attitude towards them started changing from 2015, when you-know-who managed to rig, cajole, bribe, promise, bully and threaten himself to ‘victory’! The manner by which he ‘won’ wasn’t so much the problem as it was his actions and inactions in office since ‘winning’!

I’m all for northerners eking out a living in the south-east. Problem is that you may be leaving yourself open to future attacks with their uncontrolled and undocumented presence....hence the few wicked ones are now spoiling things for the majority who just want to make their money in peace and survive!

Bro, most Northerners have a set mindset about igbo's ,and it isn't auspicious. Any igboman/state dealing with them will regret it when push comes to shove.
The fact that more than 10,000 igbo's were killed in the progroms of 1966 should tell us something. The fact that christian jos killed igbo's even before independence , should tell us something

He is not in igbo and this is the problem with Igbos, allowing strangers hijacking their affairs , penetrating them in and out to their own gain. So because if few sweet comment and using a moniker Igboson1 under disguise you term him igbo name.

No wonder one musician said that Ife na eme igbo, si na Ime imi. That moniker Igboson1 is not Igbo but acting as an Impostor in every igbo affairs, knowing your minds and working against it.

There's something called peaceful co-extistence, what he's advocating for is well meaning northerners to come our land and earn a living, there's practically nothing wrong with that.
After all the biggest investment in imo state currently is championed by a northerner.

I won't be surprised if Hope gets a traditional title from the king of Ikonso's community, attended by all the kings in Orlu, after the deaths he has brought to them, due to exchange of foreign currency.

At times, we are our own problem.

In trying to be accomodating, let's not overlook safety. Let the governor put his people first and ban the okada riders plus enforce it, let them move to other states abeg

There is a sinister plan underway, and I hope it doesn't become too late before those shouting the anthem of "oneness" will realise it
