Upon all the money these people are embezzling, they are still fighting over small piece of land?

I have read a lot of people saying "how can they be fighting over land".
That sort of statement is borne out of ignorance.

Land is a "Resource", just like Money in the bank, Gold in the Vault, etc.
Infact, you can find Gold in a Land so, if you can fight over Gold, then you can certainly fight over the land that contains the Gold!
Fighting over 'Land' is as old as humans. The Biblical Israelis of Old (not the current, Evil Zionist, Jewish State) fought over land, over and over in those days. Even today, the Apartheid Israeli Govt is still fighting Palestinians over land.
Assyrians, Babylonians, Turks, Romans, Vikings, etc all fought over LAND.

Even in Nigeria here, the current killings, Rapes and Kidnappings by the foreign, 'terrorist' Fulani Herdsmen is over Land in the Middle Belt and Southern Nigeria, dont let anyone deceive you that it is over Cows or Grazing route, those are just the 'strategies and methods' these foreign Fulanis decide to use, to get the Land.

So, there is nothing wrong in fighting to keep your land, if an invader tries to take it forcefully.
But in this modern age, if we have a functional Govt, people should not be "fighting and killing themselves" over the Land, they should be heading to Court.
And let us no make the mistake, as some are doing, that DISPUTES over land is restricted to Africans, a lot of White people, Americans, Europeans, Brits, etc are in COURT, over Land disputes (Notice that l used the term "Disputes", because they dont use Machettee or stab themselves over it, they let the Court decide).

What the "White people" did, to stop the needless killings over Land in their own domain, is to Map out the Land, using AGEIS, (a land information System), digitize and document the ownership in a seamless manner (not asking people to come and pay Millions of Naira to get C-of-O or Land Title, just for the sake of Revenue!) and ensure that the transfer of such ownership is documented and digitized for future reference,, while ensuring that the Judiciary is independent, relatively free of wanton Corruption and justice is served in a timely manner, when Disputes arise.

It is the failure of the Judicial System, resulting from a failure of Govt, that make people resort to Self-Help.
If Buhari did not import, arm and encourage those terrorists Fulani Herdsmen to kill, Rape, kidnap and cause carnage to indigenous land owners, majority of the insecurity we have today in Nigeria, wont have occurred.

A Herdsman would have gone to Court to tell a judge why he think it is "Right and Proper" for his to feed his Cows with the Crops planted by a Farmer, just before the Farmer can harvest it or why he thinks the Land in Osun or Ebonyi State belongs to him and the Court would have adjudicated over that, but he prefers to use an AK-47 to settle the matter, edged-on by the likes of the Attorney General and Minister for INJUSTICE and the President (or his stand-in) himself.

But like l said earlier, "Anger is not a Strategy", there are better ways of getting your land back, than using Daggers and Machettee, which are products of Anger and lack of Self Control.

Thanks learned lawyer. But how about a situation where a man kills someone who has the intention of killing him. For example, a man's house was burgled and the attackers were set to shoot or machete him, if he was quick to kill the attacker, what's the position of the law in this matter? Or a marauding herdsman who went to attack a farmer in his farm but unfortunately, the farmer took the day by killing him.

You are talking about killing "In Self- Defense".
The Summary of the law in that regards is that "Force used in Self Defense, must be Proportional to the threat".
Yes, Self Defense, is a mitigating factor in Law.

When you use it, you must be ready to satisfy the Judge that:
1) You have no other alternative than to use such lethal force (I am cornered, l cant even retreat or run away or escape)

2) The force used is the best option possible (I have to shoot him because he was about shooting me... but you shot him in the back showing that he was running away or retreating from you!; You could hit him with a stick, at the back or you could shoot him on the leg but you chose to Matchette him and cut off his head or you chose to aim your bullet for his Skull, etc).
You should be ready to explain the circumstances.

3) The Proportionality of Force requires that someone cannot attack you with a fist, while you defend yourself by using a Gun to Execute him! The Force in such case, is not proportional and the plea of "Self Defense" will not fly. If he came with you with a fist and you used a Stick to break his hand , you are more likely to plead self defense with that successfully.

Being as it may, if you kill someone in 'Self Defense', you can plead for mitigation and even exoneration, based on that.
That is why there are various level of charges, when it comes to one person killing another, from various degere of Murder, to Manslaughter.

You are most welcomed, we are all 'students of Learning; because "learning" never ends, till the day we pass on.

BTW: Knowledge of the Law should not be left to Lawyers alone, everyone needs to have at least, 'a good, working knowledge' of what the Constitution says about "everyday issues", because every action and everyday of our life is lived, under the guidance of the "Rule Book", if we intend to live free and build a better society.

Almost everyone keep applauding the son of the deceased for the machete of the offender but it is totally wrong to see your father stabbed and not dead yet instead of getting him to help sooner. He left the father unattended back home to bring a machete to attack while the father is still breathing. Assuming he helped he father sooner who knows if there would still be a chance of survival. I don't applaud the son at all for his act.
