Medicine is not a bad course neither is it a useless course but Nigeria has rendered the profession hopeless. Like I said government has stopped paying housemanship doctors. As of 2005, a housemanship doctor could afford to buy a car and build a house. Salaries then when converted to dollars were around 2000 USD but now you have resident doctors earning 400 USD and consultants earning 1000 to 1200 USD. A lot of people talk about private practice but there's hardly any money there now. If you think I am lying, you can make research with private hospitals. People don't have money to treat themselves so they prefer to go to quacks and chemists except you have the resources to set up a practice in high brow areas like ikoyi or lekki.

Most doctors in other states arent even paid. Abia state has been owning doctors for around 2 years now. Programming only pays in Nigeria because of the opportunity to tap into the global economy. Working for Nigerian companies is horrible but even the salaries at Nigerian companies are much higher than what doctors earn.

The best thing a doctor can Do Is to write foreign exams and japa after studies. My mom is a doctor presently doing her residency and she earns just 200k. I with less than a year of programming experience earn more than two times her monthly salary. If my mom was a doctor in the USA of course only very few programmers can match what she earns. The best thing doctors can do now is to japa but to even japa you need money and government has stopped paying salaries for housemanship.

Its not easy but with seriousness anybody can be one. I used to be a mechanic before I became a programmer. The only barrier is getting a laptop which is a huge problem for a lot of people but once you have that and put in the time, you will succeed.

It's not about just getting a laptop. Power is also important, very important.

this is the first problem we blacks or particularly Nigerians are having. We tend to study for the wrong reasons. Your drive for any course you study shouldn't be money.
You should have passion for what you study and to use it to impact the society or ur environment, not to make Money. if money is ur problem, then I tell u it's a waste of time putting about 15 years of ur time in school for the purposes of making money at the end. Why not use that time to go into business.
This wrong reason for going to school is what is making lawyers roaming the streets without work, other graduates go to learn tailoring after school.

Do what makes you happy.. it's not all about the money. Some doctors are paid 70k, while some earn close to a million. Just be an enterpreneur in the medical field because these days na to pay your self naim sure pass
