Does working for someone give them the license to insult you in Nigeria over a basic error

Ideally you should let the person know you don't appreciate their language towards you and that you want them to stop it, but in Nigeria, that move may end up working against you.

Is it a one-off or recurrent thing?

Ask co-employees about their experience with the person. Try and find out if you're the only target of the insults or others are also affected.

Overall let those you met there advise you on the matter.

Like me now that served my oga for seven years, during the first four years insults was non existent but during the last three years b4 my settlement that was when this man brought out my case file of the things I did in last four years which I thought he has forgotten that I've been with him, the thing pain Sha but I got to mellow down because my settlement is near and if I dare raise my voice on him he might start beating me which I would be tempted to defend my self and retaliate back, but all along I kept quiet whenever he is barking at me like a dog, e no dey easy ooo but I know what I was looking for and I won't let my ego stand in my way, so I swallowed my pride and he trashed me but now am on my own (after he settled me) after many years of serving him and recieving his insults.....



My advice to whoever is reading this is; don't let your ego and pride stand in your way, words(insults) are nothing unless you let it become something for you, but be sure you are always trying your best at work so as to avoid insults and bad mouthing.....

Yea, it's long but I've seen people who served longer than me, well it's not that knowledge of the business it's hard to acquire but it's what we stand to gain at the end which is settlement with cash and goods(in some cases)


Let me explain further, in Igbo land a business man will go to the village and bring a young boy from the village to the city with the sole purpose of the boy serving him for a certain period of time(apprenticeship) and he will establish the boy at a the end of the said time with goods, cash and connection in most cases depends on the requirements of the business.

Go and make further research on Igbo apprenticeship system, it's a renowned worldwide wealth transfer system

But if it's at a normal company or employment basis, I'll advice you to be humble but if it's something that you can't take then get another job elsewhere before you tender your resignation letter
