Hundreds of thousands of citizens have opted for the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to boycott the indefinite suspension of Twitter by the Nigerian government.

The federal government on Friday through its Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension of the social media platform’s operation in Nigeria.

According to the minister, the action had become necessary following the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

But while many have expressed dissatisfaction with the development, highlighting the benefits of the microblogging site, hundreds of citizens have also explained how installing a VPN app can ensure you bypass the federal government’s action and still use Twitter.

Below are some reactions.
@obasipee

This #TwitterBan is a joke cos Nigerians won’t stop using their voice.

When you wear a black lens you will think you are in a dark world and no one sees your black work. But when you remove the lens you would understand that everyone is seing you from an open roof. Such is the case of power, power intoxicate but when it lens is taken away you become little than infinitesma

Waste of time.

Free Vpns are slow and most times drain your data. Also vpn can be banned.

Apparently, most Nigerians on Twitter are already suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, acting like they cant live without Twitter.

Those in support of this ban on twitter are either unreasonable, insensitive, ignorant, or just complicit.

Twitter is private social media company that has a right to delete any tweet perceived to be against their TOS.

If the presidency perceives a foulplay, the best they could have done in a democracy is to release a statement against it. Citizens who support and buy into this will join in solidarity.

But forcing 200 million Nigerians out all of a sudden is an insensitive, autocratic, kneejerk reaction. Twitter is a market and massive source of income for many Nigerians. It's been of great help lately. Note the recent murder case solved on the platform, funds raised for sickly people, spreading useful information, to name only a few. But the presidency isn't sensitive to all these.

This is a democracy. You don't force a people out of a neutral universally-poppular social media platform. Countries like North Korea, Iran, and China who have done that are dictatorships. As it stands, Nigeria is the first "democratic" country to do this.

I am not a Buharideen but I am in full support of the Twitter suspension by PMB.

Twitter played a major role in #ENDSARS and the country is yet to recover from the spillover violence since then, the country is drifting into war all thanks to the drummers of war assembled on Twitter, twitter has a sizeable population of IPOB miscreants hell bent to use the platform to destabilize the country.

Back to the topic, switching to VPN is like wilfully handing your personal data to a criminal all because you are been chased by someone you dislike.

Use VPN and surrender your life...worst decision for the unwise.

Life existed before the birth of twitter and life won't end with the ban or death of twitter.

Lastly, most of you celebrating the use of vpn don't know vpn too can be blocked should the government follow that route, China has blocked the use of some vpn, Government is collecting the list of vpn all of you are ignorantly posting here and very soon those vpn won't work again.

Cc.

When you attain a certain "old age" you start acting like a child .

Banning of tweeter by old Buhari and lai is hurting .

But they allowed PornHub to grow.

95% of PornHub subscription in Nigeria is from the north.

Same way they banned alcohol but still steal from the alcohol tax..

Mad ooo
