That Twitter ban is a good thing. Now Nigerians will find time to do more productive things instead of Twitter wars.
Hail ethnocentric and genocidal dictatorship.

If twitter Ban is an attack on freedom of speech then taking down someone tweet is an attack on what? Freedom to f Yarn abi I guess
But I thought the platform have rules and regulations, terms and conditions you must obey? He violated it. I guess the two cases are different...

So twitter violating buhari's "freedom of speech" justifies buhari's violation of the freedom of speech of millions of nigerians ?

I know you knuckle heads are not happy that the outside world does not grant freedom of genocidal speech to your dictator, but at least use your brains properly.

JUSUN has been on strike for almost 2 months, we have not heard pim from these people.
ASUU was on strike for over one year, we never heard anything from this woman.

Nigerians should try have brain. They have refused to recognise their true enemies... omase o!
neyohh:
Elitist Nigeria is showing you what they care about the most.. yep social media that their advanced grammar speaking self's couldn't create, whilst a civil war is brewing..

If only the herdsmen can attack these people rather than those in village's, will see whether twitter is really a relevant topic to cry over.

Very useless people

You can do both fights, you people's problem is that you always seem to think you need to chose which of your rights you need to defend. That is a losing strategy.

I am NOT defending Twitter o!
To hell with Twitter. Nigerians should go and find how to be more productive instead of doing rubbish on twitter.

Modified

There is no contention here. Nigeria comes first.
Nigerians keep refering to Donald Trump being banned from Twitter.
But banning Donald Trump from Twitter is different from banning President Buhari from Twitter.

It's like my mother and my father fighting, they are still my family members, probably fighting over me and my siblings's interest.
But I will have to take sides of my father and my neighbor are fighting.

Twitter cannot come and be disrespecting our president and get away with it.

Nigerians are not wise at all, including the elites. No wonder oyibos play yo-yo with us

Not liking twitter is not a reasonable argument for defending lawlessness and dictatorship.
The fact remains that buhari has no right to "ban" twitter.
Also the businesses of some nigerians rely upon twitter, so stop being an egocentric child.
The fact you think nigerians should not be using twitter doesn't give you the right to impose your desires on others who do not think the same as you.

You people in Nigeria have troubles thinking properly.
Re: Twitter Ban Is An Attack On Freedom Of Speech - Kadaria Ahmed (Radio Now) by Nobody: 2:31am On Jun 08, 2021
Nigerians doing business in twitter.
Is that what Twitter was set up for?
It is not lawless for our president to stand up for our nation.

Twitter was disrespectful... period!

I see, you are a buhari fanatical defender. And it is through this optic that you are talking. Illiterate buhari has no right under the law to ban twitter even if twitter disrespected him. He is not a king, he is just a civil servant.

You guys are a little bit foolish, I don't know how to argue with a person who goes against facts and creates his alternate reality. What buhari is doing is against Nigerian law and international law.

For those claiming nairaland is nigerian, I will have you reminded nairaland is hosted on foreign servers. A little private company decision outside nigeria could get rid of nairaland

The choice of using twitter communication tool is a personal one which falls under freedom of speech. The nigerian president doesn't have legislative powers, therefore buhari can't make laws, therefore buhari can't ban twitter. That is the job of the legislative. Also even the legislative can not effectively ban a communication tool which is twitter because it would go against international law to jail people for breaking such ban, indeed freedom of speech is protected by international law and the icc awaits buhari and his sycophants.

AAinEqGuinea:
A Twitter ban is far from an attack on anyone’s free speech.

1) Free speech is a constitutionally protected right on and from government sponsored entities. The Nigerian, US, or any globalized government entity does not own or sponsor Twitter, Facebook, etc

2) A user or entity agrees to social media platform’s terms of service or acceptable use policy when creating an account. Buried within that agreement is the right of arbitration that allows the owner or designation to ultimately decide the fate of users content or accounts, even in cases where no obvious breach of service, violation, and for questionable circumstances. Basically Twitter makes the final decision—it is their platform to do so.

3) Even our home Nairaland has unique rules despite the perception of free speech, and has the right to arbitrary moderate content posted on this board. Even though most speech on Nairaland is acceptable, Free speech here can also warrant a deletion of posts/content, account suspension, and/or account ban at the discretion of Nairaland mods and no one will hear your outcry and screams of free speech. cool

But Nigerian government can ban imported rice?

Please, our government have the right to take unilateral decisions on issues concerning our collective interest.

Twitter was behaving as if they wanted Nigeria to scatter...so?
Bye-Bye!!!!!!! grin

If the nigerian president has the right to ban rice importations then it means the judiciary granted it that right. Nigerian president can't ban twitter for the same reason he can't ban singing, dancing, talking...
Notice that people can't be prosecuted for eating banned rice...

When people post freedom of speech blah blah blah. They forget that is it not only about them. Where you freedom stops is where mine starts.
You have freedom of speech but you have no right to use that freedom to hate on the country and do things that can destabilise it.

The government have to protect those of us who don't enjoy the vitriol on Twitter against our country.
Besides, an insult against our elected president by a foreign nation is an insult against all Nigerians.

Yes they cannot be prosecuted for eating banned rice but it can be seized in stores and markets.
So, any network or ISP enabling access through VPN, opera mini etc to Twitter, will hear from the FG.

1) an insult against buhari is an insult against buhari and his fanatical defenders like you, it has nothing to do with me or other nigerians.

2) buhari himself joined the uk and the usa to insult Jonathan when the latter was president and one of the tools used by buhari was twitter.

3) buhari is not defending any peace or any Nigerian, he is only acting like a child or a girl with uncontrollable emotional outburst after being denied.

4) you are full of shit

If someone posted messages that is against the Twitter terms of service, Twitter reserves the right to remove such messages.

Buhari's messages was clearly against the Twitter terms of service and was rightly removed.
