The Nigerian Army has named Onyema Nwachukwu, a brigadier general, as its new spokesperson.

Mr Nwachukwu takes over from Mohammed Yerima, also a brigadier general, who was appointed in February by the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru.

Until his appointment, Mr Nwachukwu was the acting director of defence information at the defence headquarters.

He was the deputy director of the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre command in Maiduguri.

He attended the University of Ibadan and holds a Masters’ Degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Post Graduate School, Kaduna.

He once served as the media coordinator of the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield.

He was also Assistant Director Defence Information (NA), DHQ, Chief of Staff Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations and Public Relations Officer, NDA.

This whole nonsense because of Buhari's ineptitude. Wonder who is advising him in the presidency and the defense ministry but I bet this must be from a child at Aso Rock.

Now he has done that the defense ministry gives the go ahead and the CDS has to become innovative about the place of these highly qualified Generals the president was aloof to see beyond his nose because of bare nepotism. Creating unnecessary discontent.

Tell me what GEN. Yahaya is going to do that GEN. Yusuf can't do. I mean next to GEN. Irabor the present CDS, GEN. Yusuf performed almost as good in the NORTH-EAST Campaign as Theater Commander and went up to the MNJTF based in N'djamena, Chad. There is no gainsaying it this president is inept and ascetic.

Let us help them think outside the box. There is no reason to retire these fine gentlemen officers trained at great cost to the state. The model proposed by President Obasanjo during his presidency can come to fruition now which is there's no reason we can't have more than one 4 star General or more 3 star Generals. The point should be about corps and command.

You can set up a West African Command with a Full General or Lt. Gen or its equivalent from either Service posted there reporting to Defence HQ and not to the Service HQ just like you have the MNJTF. There's already a West African template though ad hoc mostly which can be activated on full standby with a full mechanized brigade and support services of the NAF and NN bringing it up to division size.

Same command can be replicated for all the regions of Africa. In peace time they can gather intelligence, do recce, military diplomacy, courses, training and re-training among services and partner nations. That way you keep the Generals happy and busy. After all there's already medals for these in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Get into action and apply these officers.

Continuing this tradition of retiring fine officers to make way for the political choice of a sitting president is counter-productive.
I believe they go into reserve force from which they can be recalled at any time?

I've talked about the issue of retiring MG compulsorily because a junior MG was promoted to the rank of LTG more than a year ago on this thread.

I believe a 3 star General out rank a 2 star General so that has settle the issue of who the most senior officer will be. Any MG that is not comfortable can now retire voluntarily.

I even used the US military as an example. In the US army, person wey una join the same year fit later dey serve as a GEN make you still dey LTGEN.

But the word in bold sad Shey nah inside Nigeria all this West African command, Central Africa command etc go dey or dem go dey other African countries?

All this will cost billions of dollars, abeg make dem spend am on infrastructure for here, we need power supply, good roads, good and cheap health care centers, we need to spend more money on primary and secondary education too not to talk of the tertiary level and a lot of things still dey wey be say we need to do.
It often comes down to courses passed to out rank a course mate. It's a reality the soldiers know however in this case the president used his constitutional powers of prerogative.

I knew the issue of finance will come but the money spent in retiring these officers every few years its humongous. A little addition to it will do the trick. In West Africa there are many options for a command HQ likewise in other regions of Africa. Nigeria actually has more clout than you may think. The Military High Command can actually have some of these combatant commands for a start domiciled at Ship House and Defense HQ. The idea is not to go and start wars. The military is not all about fighting all of the time. Instead of a fire brigade approach like we had in Mali we can be ahead of the game. Countries we never thought of are now filling in the military gaps in most of these African countries that we used to do.

Defense costs money. This is a reality the present administration is slowly waking up to.

This one is going back from DHQ to army headquarters.
They are probably making ways for some of the "affected" RC 36 members so that not all of them will be retired.

It is a subtle way of telling you to find your way. The CDS is a modern man and the military generally has been looking at the American command structure for many years apparently now they are being innovative with that but you may wear the uniform and rank but have no job. It's not exactly where any man want to be. Its like a footballer warming the bench.

If we are to spend extra money on defense in this manner, why not focus more on solving internal problems.
I'm thinking along the line of a national guard force. Some of the structures are already in place. Deep blue will be converted to coast guard, manpower will be drawn from customs and immigration for border guards and the various state security outfits will be converted to state units of the national guard.

I have also made same submissions about a National Guard. Any of these Generals can be seconded there. NIMASA as Coast Guard well.

I have also suggested development of a Marine Corp entity with a complete different doctrine of combat following some tactical losses in the North-East which can solely be blamed on the way the army fights its wars.

But all of this will cost money and a lot of it.

The truth is we have to spend more on defense. We still have to give credit to the present administration they have really done more in terms of defense spending. We need more.

About internal problems we actually have a policing problem. The present police force is inadequate, corrupt, mostly ill-trained except some intelligence units. It will take complete restructuring to make it work. The military can't be called in everywhere there's a local matter of cutlass and home made guns between civilians.

Some really excellent projects like this by the administration. Rotimi Amaechi the minister of transport actually laid claim to this idea and reality. It actually shows what we can do and become as a nation if we get the right leaders.

Spend $1 trillion on equipment and very little will change if you don't have a good plan. With the little Nigeria already has, much more than what is currently obtained can be achieved if we have a good plan.
By now, one would expect every MDAs, levels and arms of government to be focusing on ending insecurities and contributing to a national plan against insecurity.
As it is, it is just vibes and inshallah.

What many of these so-called anarchists and breakaway campaigners fail to realise is that the moment this contraption called Nigeria ceases to exist, so does their Nirvana.

The Nigerdelta, North Central and to an extent the NorthEast as a bloc would all cease to exist.

What remains would be Balkan states with feudal lords.

I don't think this is correct. Probably just an estimate. Our daily consumption is 52million upward, I even saw a report a while ago saying it has gotten to 95million litres per day.
This is from the DPR brother, although I'd have to admit, the data is from 2016

I found something more recent

Still roughly the same.

There is a reason why countries don't make access to their lands easier for poorer and less secured countries. You build a bridge to a country with a sound economy, not a country with no economy, just because "they are your brothers".
This is total nonsense.
Look at these ignorant fool, since when do foreigners need train or car for that matter to enter Nigeria. If you are truly as educated as you claim you would certainly have known that Nigerian borders are not fenced.
