The Nigerian Army has named Onyema Nwachukwu, a brigadier general, as its new spokesperson. Mr Nwachukwu takes over from Mohammed Yerima, also a brigadier general, who was appointed in February by the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru. Until his appointment, Mr Nwachukwu was the acting director of defence information at the defence headquarters. He was the deputy director of the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre command in Maiduguri. He attended the University of Ibadan and holds a Masters’ Degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Post Graduate School, Kaduna. He once served as the media coordinator of the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield. He was also Assistant Director Defence Information (NA), DHQ, Chief of Staff Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations and Public Relations Officer, NDA. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/466997-army-names-nwachukwu-as-new-spokesperson.html |

Covert1:I believe they go into reserve force from which they can be recalled at any time? |

DubaiLandLord:It often comes down to courses passed to out rank a course mate. It's a reality the soldiers know however in this case the president used his constitutional powers of prerogative. I knew the issue of finance will come but the money spent in retiring these officers every few years its humongous. A little addition to it will do the trick. In West Africa there are many options for a command HQ likewise in other regions of Africa. Nigeria actually has more clout than you may think. The Military High Command can actually have some of these combatant commands for a start domiciled at Ship House and Defense HQ. The idea is not to go and start wars. The military is not all about fighting all of the time. Instead of a fire brigade approach like we had in Mali we can be ahead of the game. Countries we never thought of are now filling in the military gaps in most of these African countries that we used to do. Defense costs money. This is a reality the present administration is slowly waking up to. |

DubaiLandLord:This one is going back from DHQ to army headquarters. They are probably making ways for some of the "affected" RC 36 members so that not all of them will be retired. |

Whyem15:It is a subtle way of telling you to find your way. The CDS is a modern man and the military generally has been looking at the American command structure for many years apparently now they are being innovative with that but you may wear the uniform and rank but have no job. It's not exactly where any man want to be. Its like a footballer warming the bench. |

Covert1:If we are to spend extra money on defense in this manner, why not focus more on solving internal problems. I'm thinking along the line of a national guard force. Some of the structures are already in place. Deep blue will be converted to coast guard, manpower will be drawn from customs and immigration for border guards and the various state security outfits will be converted to state units of the national guard. |

Whyem15:I have also made same submissions about a National Guard. Any of these Generals can be seconded there. NIMASA as Coast Guard well. I have also suggested development of a Marine Corp entity with a complete different doctrine of combat following some tactical losses in the North-East which can solely be blamed on the way the army fights its wars. But all of this will cost money and a lot of it. The truth is we have to spend more on defense. We still have to give credit to the present administration they have really done more in terms of defense spending. We need more. About internal problems we actually have a policing problem. The present police force is inadequate, corrupt, mostly ill-trained except some intelligence units. It will take complete restructuring to make it work. The military can't be called in everywhere there's a local matter of cutlass and home made guns between civilians. |

DEEP BLUE: From NIMASA To You Brand New Some really excellent projects like this by the administration. Rotimi Amaechi the minister of transport actually laid claim to this idea and reality. It actually shows what we can do and become as a nation if we get the right leaders.

RiceProducers:Spend $1 trillion on equipment and very little will change if you don't have a good plan. With the little Nigeria already has, much more than what is currently obtained can be achieved if we have a good plan. By now, one would expect every MDAs, levels and arms of government to be focusing on ending insecurities and contributing to a national plan against insecurity. As it is, it is just vibes and inshallah. |

Everybody in the south, follow the steps I pinned down, your only salvation is to divide this rubbish called nigeria. Your grand children and great grand children will thank you for it. Don't listen to the fear mongers, history is filled with their types. Fight for your freedom because nobody will do that for you. The oppressors will not grant you freedom, you have to take it by yourself. |

DubaiLandLord:Babaowen. I have had to open a new account (away from my policy of doing so when banned) just to say that this your new face of reality is a breath of fresh air. What many of these so-called anarchists and breakaway campaigners fail to realise is that the moment this contraption called Nigeria ceases to exist, so does their Nirvana. The Nigerdelta, North Central and to an extent the NorthEast as a bloc would all cease to exist. What remains would be Balkan states with feudal lords. |
