South-South Never Supported Ojukwu During Biafra War – Ex-Minister, Babatope by bolaayenimo: 5:52pm On Jun 14, 2021
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Former Minister of Transport and Elder statesman, Chief Ebenezer Babatope has said that the people of the South-South never supported Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, military governor of the defunct Eastern Region which broke away as The Republic of Biafra in 1966 during the Nigerian civil war fought between 1966 to 1970.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent on Monday, Babatope said even if the people of the South-South region which was made up of minority tribes of the South-East have sympathy for Ojukwu, they did not show commitment to the cause of Biafra.

He said, “The South-South did not support Ojukwu during the Biafra civil war. The minority tribes of the South-East are the South-South people. The South-South is made up of minority tribes in the South-East like Calabar, Ogoja, Rivers and so on. They never committed themselves to the Biafran war”.

“Ojukwu himself knew that the South-South people were not committed to the cause of Biafra. It was very apparent that the other part of the country that began war against Ojukwu used the South-South territories as stepping stones to get the Biafrans”.

“In fact, I remember very well that this famous musician, Cardinal Rex Lawson did a record and if you listen to it, it was non-committal record even though he did the record as if he was supporting Biafra”.

“Also, it was easy for Alfred Diette-Spiff to be appointed as military governor of Rivers state by Yakubu Gowon during that time because Ojukwu didn’t have control of the South-South states”.

In my humble opinion if the so called lifeless ipob (Dot in a circle) miscreants won't abuse me. They can't have their country because they are still fighting to be part of Nigeria. Their youths are still registering for Npower

There was nothing like biafra before 1967.
The British drew the lines and lumped the minorities into the Eastern region without consultations.

What Babatope is trying to say is that Buhari’s “Dot in a Circle” statement is useless because the South South has never supported the Igbos in the war against Nigeria and yet Biafra held its fort for 3 years.

If Biafra did it then without the support of SS, we can do more now without their support still.

But the knife of 1967 will not cut again, that I’m sure.

Any war that will arise now, the SE and SS will fight together with full commitment. Rather when the war is won, we decide whether to stay together or become independent countries. Everything will be negotiated.

Afonja Will never allow the South to Unite.

The North keep using them as a tool to further Divide the South.

Who asked him?

Later some stupid urchins would come here and be shouting United South, when Afonja men are fulanis scissors of Divide and rule.

I doubt if they can ever be really United.

If South-West can remain Neutral and not join the north against South-East, I don't think South-East would need a United South to tackle their problem head on.

In my opinion, it's even the South-West that needs A United South the more.

Muric would be there dividing them further.

It's unfortunate.

Why should we support that monkey?
A coward who ran away while 2 million of his people died of hunger.
Notice how Biafran leaders always run away while their people are being killed.
The South South owes Biafran idiots nothing. We have our own lives to live.
