Hi
Hello

Not much has changed this week, appetite is little, she looks stressed, although her energy got back a little. The pups have gotten considerably large in there and have started feeling mushy to touch.

Yeah, it does happen. The repeat sessions are probably just to be double sure there's enough sperm around about the time she ovulates but I think that if you do your calculations well and get even the tiniest bit of sperm in when she's at her most fertile stage - between the 10th and the 12th day post bleeding - it's definitely going to result in a pregnancy. No need to waste the sperm, after all, all you need is a sperm cell per egg.

On another note, since after Kenya, I've gone on to perform AI on two other dogs and they're all pregnant. I used the crudest of tools and simplest of methods and it was all successful. Key is knowing when the bitch is most fertile, even without all them Progesteron level checks.

Today Sunday, 13th June 2021 makes it 5wks after Kenya was bred. Her energy bounced back towards the end of last week, but her appetite is almost sub-zero. There's a slight increase in her belly size and the teat area. She easily gets angry these days and growls, even when playing. We'd see how this 6th week will look like.

Kenya had this clear mucus discharge from her vulva today Tuesday June 15th, it was like some gelatin or something. Don't know how long it'll last though. I can't feel the pups any more, feels super mushy. Believe all is going as normal.

The week has been moving smoothly; appetite up by more than 50% but she takes breaks in-between meals, like she starts eating, then takes an abrupt stop, runs around or maybe lies around a bit kinda to catch her breathe, then resumes eating and repeat. Against my expectation, she's brimming with some sort of unexpendable amount of energy, running and jumping with reckless abandon. I came back today to meet a distended belly, a bit bigger than I left her I think, don't know what cos I'm sure she didn't have too much to eat. The discharge still persists though.

Today Sunday 20th June 2021 and it's a wrap for the 6th week and 2nd trimester. As from tomorrow, we hit the last trimester. Her appetite picked up, along with excess energy. The discharge has dried up, belly size and her teats all slightly increased.

Kenya is getting heavier, her belly continues to increase, her teats have turned darker. She drinks and pees a lot maybe cos the pups are pressing against her bladder, her appetite comes in spurts, she does not finish her normal ration at once any more so I leave the food with her to eat free choice. Her breathing is heavy, shallow and laboured, almost like she's struggling to breathe, I understand it's the less room inside her. She now walks with a ''swagger'' and is noticeably pregnant. Her energy level is still high, though she can't really play even if she wanted to. Let's see how this ends.

I just felt the first lil kick from the pups this evening! grin Was feeling Kenya's belly when I felt them kick back with their tiny lil feet, this means their organogenesis and skeletal formation is complete. At least they should be getting covered with fur by now. I'm so excited!

I know right! The guy really tried for me. I'm just wondering how their coat colours would be.
A friend wants to sell her adult male lhasa, she's traveling that's why. Should anyone be interested, holla why the offer lasts.

So sorry diary for the hiatus, I had some emergency that got me tied up.

Last week Sunday marked the end of the 7th week and today, Tuesday 29th June 2021 is the 51st day post breeding and the 8th week. Kenya is just getting larger abdominally, though not so large, same as her teats. Her vulva began swelling again around late last week and the slimy clear discharge has returned. Her appetite is fluctuating, with too much energy and jumping around, and she keeps yawning all the time. The pups have started kicking and moving around in earnest, I can make out their shapes and movement when she's lying on her side. I'm seriously thinking she'll have 4 pups, what do you think.

Preparation is underway for Kenya's delivery, have gathered a few essentials: disposable gloves, old papers and clothes, and I'm thinking of making a whelping box too! Will have her claws clipped today or tomorrow. I'm also thinking of deworming her again but afraid of the effect on the pups, what do y'all think, should I go ahead, is it safe? I might also begin taking her on short walks in the evenings, as she's becoming more sedentary. Some people adviced against giving her meat, even cutting down her food, so as to not make the pups too big during delivery while others have opposing views, what do y'all think?

Today is day 53, the whelping box is ready. I arranged some old papers in it and introduced Kenya to it, she instantly got to work shredding them, making this circular turns inside and trying to build a nest, though she didn't last on the job. She always makes a beeline to my bed and does the same thing as she did in the box, I hope she doesn't whelp on my bed though. She seems restless and full of energy, this evening she kept on giving this sharp sudden barks at imaginary things and she was breathing hard. I clipped her claws and trimmed her vulva area. Her appetite keeps fluctuating. Her belly this evening looked as though it reduced in size, it wasn't as big as usual, though the pups are still kicking as normal. All things being equal, we have about 10 more days to go before the D day.

So today's the 55th day, everything's speeding up real fast, it seems she's getting enlarged on the hour: her belly, vulva and teats are getting bigger and heavier, in fact I saw some bit of colostrum when I massaged her teats this evening. The pups are kicking as though they're fighting in there. The discharge is still there, though not much. Despite looking heavy, she stills jumps around as normal, though I try to let her rest. Diet and appetite are as usual: Royal Canine Puppy kibbles, noodles, rice and chicken with Multivitamin tabs twice daily.

I was able to get a thermometer today and would commence taking her rectal temperature twice daily as from today. Read that normal ranges from 37.5-38.5'C and that there's a 1'C drop within 24hrs prior to whelping. I took the first reading tonight and it showed 37.4'C. She usually exhibits signs of nestling whenever I bring her to the whelping box and I plan doing that every evening till she whelps. EDD: Sunday 11 July, 2021.

Yesterday Sunday July 5 was exactly 8wks after Kenya was bred. This is now the 9th week, we're finally getting to the end of this journey. It still feels like yesterday when she came on heat! Everything remains the same, except for her bulging belly and teats, it's like she's going to burst open. Sometimes I pity her, yet she wants to jump all over the place, though she flops to the floor immediately after. Her breathing is fast, like she can't get enough air. Her appetite is optimal and her last temperature check is still 37.4'C which has been her average ever since. Everything is set for whelping, the count down is on!
