Honestly,
I had to drop whatsapp voicenote to warn other pilots on the road and that was exactly 10:46pm.

It was around 10:57pm i heard the tanker later exploded.

I thank God cux it would have been another case.

Looking at the tanker.... a disaster waiting to happen.... how can such a contraption be allowed on the road.... let alone to transport fuel? The fire service was called to prevent a disaster but did not respond?.... and there isn't going to be an investigation and heads roll?....and we wonder such avoidable damages and deaths continue to occur. No accountability.

Another sad incident. On a positive note, the state's response to crisis has become more impressive. Back then, the truck would burn till the next day, unattended to.

Absolutely no but when u decide to seek alternative from the higher spirit be ready to pay for the price. Though it make life easier than it was but just be ready for the price anytime any day.

If not that Lagos road is always jam pack and hold up everywhere, fire fighters would have been able to save lives and properties.
Fire Fighters should be in every city, not some far away city especially in a highly congested state like Lagos. Just like we have Local Governments we should have Fire fighters everywhere.

The fire service no go show. The first step was to ensure cars stopped moving which should have been done by the police.

Can't wait for the Police ... it is the civic duty of those present and sensing the danger to take whatever action they can to avoid a disaster... like someone earlier said he did by warning motorists to divert... while others had called the Fire Department. I guess the Police arrived sometime after.... but bottom line... there is no excuse for the Fire Service not responding immediately.

Repeated calls to the Lagos state fire service for preemptive measures proved abortive until the tanker exploded . this country self .

The first 3 to 5 calls to the fire service is all they need to respond to.
Imagine the number of calls that would have gone out through out the duration of the leak, the explosion and then the fire. They can't respond to ALL those calls.
And if you read further, it states that the fire service put out the fire afterwards.

To the highlighted part of your statement, Is there anything they would have done as preemptive measures? Please share.

Nigeria is not functioning no doubt, but this is not a fair assessment by you because there is absolutely nothing that could have been done at that point.

The gas truck owners should answer questions to know if they used a truck in their operations without following safety standards.
