Hi, i don'tknow about other banks but i did it successfullylast month with CIBC, only challenge was getting USD in my domiciliary account.
Apparently with ALL Nigerian banks you can only transfer a minimum of 5000 USD, if the money in your account was cash deposited in the last 30 days but you can do any amount if it was a wire transfer.
Go to the CIBC website, select the student GIC, And generate the USD to CAD exchange rate, it will be locked for 20 minutes for u to fill out the form. The rate will expire after 20 minutes. You will be asked for international passport and LOA. Then CIBC will send you an account number to pay into takes like 1-2 working days, print it out and use it to fill out the forms. After the transfer 2 to 3 working days after the transfer you will get an investment advice.
N:B the money transfer to CIBC must come from the same name account
Akannitommy:
@Lovesarrow and other in the house familiar with procuring GIC by Nigerian Int'l Student to support visa application: what is the best option/route to do this?

I remember trying this in mid-2020 but was not possible to do then. Or it could also be that I was not well informed about the process, back then. I am trying to think through adding a GIC to my cousin's application against Winter 2022 (19 yr old undergrad going to Usask).

Am in Canada and have bank accounts with CIBC and RBC. Any of these bank offering the service to Nigerians still back home or does my own status here/with banks help in any ways?

Thanks.

Congratulations. PPR news can be so sweet.

My testimony shall come soon.

owee:

Applied April 11th >NSE Request April 23rd>MER June 17th>BVL & PPR June 23rd

I will send a detailed timeline this weekend as work would not let me put my thoughts together during the week(hence only key milestones above).

A lot happened between each of these dates you see above from ghost updates, web forms to emails to request for gcms notes to cbsa notes(only yesterday).

NB:

This is my 3rd application. Previous 2 were refused so you will agree with me that it was a long journey.

MyRace:
VERY VERY LONG POST ALERT!
However, I thought to write this long so that different people can pick a thing or two......
Do read along....................

Hello everyone, thank you for your kind words and congrats to all who have gotten their PPR thus far. As promised, I'll try to share my story with you guys, even though it's incomplete as of yet.

Family of 5
Study permit for me and 3 children, visitor's visa for hubby
Submitted June 10, 2020.
Biometrics request June 11
Biometrics done August 24 (a day after VFS reopened)
GCMS requested August 28
Refusal September 24
GCMS came back Sept 28

Now, from the GCMS notes, I noticed the following:
1. The decision to refuse was taken as at July 11! Guys try to order your GCMS as early as 6 weeks into your application.
2. There was an error in reaching one of the reasons for my refusal. I had done an MBA in Nigeria, going for a Masters of Finance, but the VO interpreted it that I had done an MFin previously and so there's no career progression.

Immediately i received the GCMS, I torn between reapplying and seeking a Judicial Review (JR). The reason I considered the JR in the first place was because I felt the refusal simply unfair and baseless. Yes, a visa is not my right, however, as long as an individual meets the guidelines set in place, it is only fair that they receive a positive outcome.

Another reason I considered it is because, it's an opportunity people rarely use and this has given VOs the leeway to keep refusing people on a whim. If more people contest their refusal and win, it will likely lead to an overhaul of the current system going on in Nairobi.

October 2, I contacted an Immigration Consultant on Instagram about the possibility of reapplying. After reviewing all my documents, he insisted I go for JR, but hubby was not convinced. 1 because he didn't want to "fight" the Canadian immigration system and 2, he wasn't sure if the outcome would be successful especially considering the cost difference between paying a lawyer and reapplying.
Well, Consultant introduces us to an Immigration Lawyer. He reviews my documents again and said that I had a "Perfect" application, and so there's no reason for a refusal. Then he went ahead and offered to go ahead without a DIME being paid! If he loses, he goes away empty handed, but if he succeeds, then we pay a certain amount above the initial base amount. Hubby was more confortable with this arrangement.

October 29th after many back and forth, we submitted our application for JR. We were meant to get a response exactly 30 days which was to lapse on November 29th.

November 29th, Lawyer receives an email from the IRCC lawyers asking for additional 3 days to file their response.

And then silence, no further communication or even the expected response.

December 19th, I received an email saying there was a notification on my GCKey.

I logged on, and saw that the portion that usually shows "refused" had changed to "submitted". Every other member of my family's own still remained "refused". We called lawyer, he said he hasn't heard from them. Now, "success" with regards to our agreement with the Lawyer is when IRCC asks for "settlement". So at this point, it seemed like my application had been reopened without any agreement between my Lawyer and that of IRCC.

The wait was unimaginable!

January 12 I ordered GCMS and it came back February 12, and in it, it was stated that my application has been reopened because of a JR and my Lawyer has accepted the terms of the settlement!

Immediately, we sent the GCMS to him, still he maintained he hadn't heard anything from them. February finished, nothing!

March 3rd, Lawyer receives a letter requesting for a settlement on the case and the terms of the settlement. This was the exact same letter in my GCMS notes posted to my portal AS AT DECEMBER 2020! Anyway, we felt at least things are moving small small.

March 11, I received a request for additional documents. Really, what was important were new LOA and Financial statements.

March 24 uploaded the requested documents.

April 10 did up-front medical

April 29 Up-front medical passed

May 3, review for uploaded documents started.

June 16, Correspondence letter and PPR, 2 minutes apart.

Hubby and the children's applications were not reopened, we're currently in a dilemma as to whether to reapply for them or right a letter to IRCC. Your kind suggestions would be highly appreciated.

A few things to note from my personal experience:

1. The VOs are not as smart or as efficient as we tend to give them credit for.

2. Most times, approvals and refusals are given based more on feelings than clear evidence before them.

3. While I understand that JR is an expensive route, it would be nice if more people do it as it will highlight a lot of the rubbish they do at the embassy.

4. Lastly, let's be considerate to other people about how we boast after getting PPR. Trust me, the things you boast about: perfect SOP, Prayers, Documents etc, there are people who did all that and more and still got refused.

In the course of this journey, I also started to pursue a student visa in tbe UK before things started looking up, and believe me, the system with the British is far more transparent than that of Canada. Once you meet the requirements at submission, you are over 80% sure you'll be awarded the visa. But there's a lot of bias and subjectivity with the Canadian embassy.

I want to thank every single contributor to this Agile forum for the work you do! I submitted a "Perfect Application" ( according to my Lawyer) thanks to the stuff I got from here.

Also, I want to thank @frankrobben for his patience and selflessness here. People drag him all the time, but he never relents in being helpful. I remember the day I wrote about the JR option and his contribution and how he was dragged and insulted. Yet, he and I have never had any direct encounter and the Consultant and Lawyer did not come from him. Well done!
I pray everyone gets their prayers answered as well

@MyRace, Thank you for taking the time to share your invaluable feedback and impactful experience in the Canadian immigration journey.

As for the bolded statement, I have grown to understand that "Whatever you do, good or bad, people will always have something to say. And for one to remain at the top of the game, you must be ready to face criticism at every phase of the stage". This has shaped my reasoning over the years and I'm open to more criticism grin grin.

Along same line, I appreciate you leaving such a kindhearted review and compliments. I am glad to have been a part of your process of immigrating to Canada and wish you nothing but success!

It will end in praise

Hi everyone.

I logged into my account and saw an IFHP application that I didn't start. I'm wondering if it's a system glitch and what I can do about it.
My plan is to send a webform about it, but I'm not very certain of what to say.

Please has anyone experienced this? And what do you think I should do?

Thank you.

Thanks for your swift response. What i mean by abnormal is 145/81.

Akannitommy:
Not really. Although I would want you to state what levels you meant by abnormal so those who are medically qualified can comment, because I am not. I can't remember what my own level was back then but you can check my post in August/September 2020 for some idea.

I had a relatively higher BP when I had my medical too and still passed it. I think the most important components of your medical exam is that no indication of organ damage/issues. One way is to check the Cardiologist's report and the Serum Creatinine test result. If the HBP is not an indication of a problem with these ones or any other problem, then you are good to go.

HBP may be more common than most of us think - in Nigeria considering the stress we go through on the average - but also very dangerous if not managed. But on its own (within certain limits, I assume), it is not enough ground for medical failure/refusal in this student visa context.

These are my own personal experience and thought to share in response to your question.

You have to take the Screenshot of the Page in your GCKEYS. If you have the screenshot of what it used to be, you should also attach it.
Go to Google, Type IRCC webform. Your Visa Office Center should be Nairobi Kenya.

As for the message, just explain it the way you saw it. That you applied for study permit on so so date but when you logged into your account today, it's displaying different Application you didn't apply for...

See below my post in part 18 on Oct 15th 2020 about he same topic. This has my own level then.

"I don't think it could on its own except the underlying cause is organ related and would have heavy medical costs to manage beyond a particular threshold (20k CAD?) annually. Also, did you know and disclosed to the doctors/nurses during your medical screening at the panel physician.

I was flagged with a slightly high BP (142/91) during medicals. I was scared too but I passed my medicals about a month later. In fact, a cardiologist report is listed on my e-medical slip, as one of the exams they did in my case. I am guessing due to age (41) and maybe the slightly elevated BP reading.

Although I am still awaiting SP final decision since submitting application on August 22, I don't think that will count negatively just on its own. I could be wrong though but that's my personal experience.

Cheers!"

Kobayashi01:
Good morning my people. Long post alert.

Firstly, I’ll like to thank Almighty God for coming through for me. I just got PPR.

Timeline
Did upfront medicals: March 28 (IOM)
Applied: April 7th
Background check started immediately
Biometrics updated: April 12th
Medicals updated to passed: April 13th
Eligibility review started: Around April 28 (I didn’t note this, it was until I discovered this thread I knew it was noteworthy)
Orders GCMS notes: June 11
Emails and web forms to Lagos and Nairobi: June 16
Bvl and PPR: June 23 (7:50am)

First time applicant.
I discovered this thread after I had applied and I immediately noticed some mistakes….. I didn’t submit my BSc transcript and I had lump sums moved to my dom account, although I briefly stated that the funds were transferred by my immediate family members in my LOE (this was verifiable from the statement’s inflow) and I also had almost zero outflow on the account.

I submitted personal MBS, papers statements of my sponsor and IELTS with my application so there was no NSE request.
My brother is a Canadian PR and he is my sponsor. I had tuition for 1 year and flight money in my GTB Dom account and he had my 10k CAD living cost set aside in a savings account of his.

I’m 25 years old and my program starts in August. For home ties, I used a property that was gifted to me by my mum, my parents and my job.

When I saw that people who applied after me were getting PPR requests, I started to lose faith. My mum saw I was down, prayed with me and I felt enlightened again. I want to encourage you all to keep the hope high. God will do it.
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by mamatee2: 7:48pm On Jun 23, 2021
Comgratulations!!!

Dynatotita:
Good morning all,

God has done it for me.

My PPR dropped moments ago.

Online Application submission with NSE documentations: March 4, 2021
Biometric enrolment: March 5, 2021 updated to March 8, 2021
Upfront medical updated to passed: March 9 2021
More than 5 ghost updates
BVL: June 4, 2021
PPR: June 23, 2021
Series of reminders to Nairobi office
God will do it for all of you expecting this. Amen
