Crypto was never banned in Nigeria. The CBN just asked banks not to deal with crypto exchanges.

The legal tender is not against it. The banks, not Naira, were forbidden from facilitating the transaction.

I guess most people, such as you, have come to associate banks with money. The concept of money transcends banks. Banks only offer a service to hold money for people, and to facilitate transactions. There are mature people in this country who don't have bank account. That's the way it should be. We need a decentralised system where people do not associate money with banks

Well, the constitution can easily be altered to make it constitutional. That's not a problem.

Another legal tender means that the people have another option to trade with. Hence, there would be less dependence on foreign currencies for international transactions. This is something Nigeria needs badly.

In fact, there should a channel that completely bypasses hard currency, such as dollar, and exchanges directly from your local currency to any currency on earth. No more shortage of foreign exchange because transactions are directly from the sender to receiver. Cryptocurrency is that channel.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued a circular in early February warning banks and financial institutions that “facilitating payments for cryptocurrency exchanges is prohibited” and that they needed to identify and close accounts associated with them.

Speaking on behalf of the bank's chief, Godwin Emefiele, Deputy Governor Adamu Lamtek said the bank had never banned cryptocurrency activity in the country.....it only prohibit transactions on cryptocurrencies in the banking sector.”
