Anambra 2021: Valentine Ozigbo wins PDP primary; to challenge Soludo, others

Mr Ozigbo is a former CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp).
by Cletus Ukpong
June 26, 2021

A banker, Valentine Ozigbo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State.

The 50-year-old Mr Ozigbo polled 62 out of 218 votes to beat 13 other aspirants who were on the ballot.

Some aspirants had withdrawn from the primary out of protest because of the new list of delegates that was released by the National Working Committee of the party.

Besides, a faction of the party had held a parallel primary elsewhere in Awka which produced Ugochukwu Uba as its own candidate.

The candidates defeated by Mr Ozigbo included Uche Ukwunife, a serving senator, who scored 44 votes and came third in the primary which was conducted late into Saturday night.

Obiora Okonkwo, a billionaire businessman, came second with 58 votes.

Mr Ozigbo was the president and chief executive officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) from 2019 to 2020.

He has worked with several banks in Nigeria, including Diamond Bank and the United Bank for Africa.

Mr Ozigbo will be contesting against a former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the November 6 governorship election in the state.

THEY JUST MADE OUR LIVES A WHOLE LOT EASY.

NOW, WE ARE COMFORTABLY BEHIND SOLUDO.

DR MADUKA SHOULD CROSS OVER TO APGA.

PDP CAN NEVER WIN ANY ELECTION IN ANAMBRA.

THEY WILL NOT EVEN COME SECOND.
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Nobody: 5:46am On Jun 27, 2021
At least Anambra will be assured of two excellent candidates in Soludo and Ozigbo. Ozigbo will have the advantage of the Catholic Church and faithful as well as the significant monetary resources of the PDP. He will also come across as humble, easy to listen to and a true servant of the people. Soludo comes with intimidating credentials but his personality comes across as cunning and arrogant. He will depend heavily on APGA ground structures to win.

It's clear to me now that PDP has no interest in Anambra development. Soludo all the way as well, Maduka should go and join APGA.

PDP messed up. Who is Ozigbo in the first place? The only credential Ozigbo has is just being a hotel manager in Abuja. Maduka would have been their "best and first 11". Well APGA will still win anyway.

PDP just shot themselves at the foot by not giving the ticket to Maduka. With Maduka as PDP flag bearer, it would have been a contest too close to call between PDP and APGA but now I see Soludo winning by a landslide.

Anambra: Ozigbo presents manifesto, unveils ‘5 cluster development plan
30th March 2021

From Noah Ebije, Kaduna

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo has taken his message of revolutionising governance to indigenes of Anambra living in Enugu.

The Enugu town hall meeting, tagged ‘VCO Meets Ndi Anambra in Enugu’ is the fourth in a series of interactive sessions Ozigbo has hosted. It follows the successful events held in Ikoyi and Amuwo-Odofin in Lagos over the weekend and Abuja.

At the well-attended event held at Kobbs Civic Centre, Ozigbo unveiled his Ka Anambra Chawapu Manifesto, which details his grand vision to bring unmatched development to Anambra State if elected come November.

Speaking on his ‘Five-Cluster Development Strategy’, the founder of Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO) Foundation said: “We have brought in creative and strategic thinking into the process. We cannot afford to approach development in the old way. Times have changed. We need to bring fresh ideas to governance.”

“Onitsha and environs, including Idemili, will be developed as a proper commercial hub to suit its unique demography. Nnewi Zone and Ihiala cluster will be transformed into the biggest industrial hub in German Information Centre Africa,” Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, continued.

“The Omambala areas of Oyi, Ayamelum, Anambra East and Anambra West plus Ogbaru and Awka North will become an agricultural gold mine.

“In our agricultural sector, we will leverage the power of technology, so we can go beyond crop production and move into the processing of our farm produce. That way, our farmers will control the entire economic chain. It will bring untold prosperity to that sector.

“Awka cluster will be developed into what it should be – a state capital we can all be proud of. Our ‘Visit Anambra’ agenda will showcase the Awka cluster as a welcoming gateway for tourism and business travel. It will also be a hub for transformation of our educational system.

“We will create a new technology city in a place like Ekwulobia in the Old Aguata Zone Cluster. We must tap into developments in the global economy. We must chart a path for our youth to unleash their creative and entrepreneurial potential to bring wealth to our state. Technology is the world’s biggest economy. Imagine a city where we bring together big data, connectivity, and artificial intelligence for our youth to leverage to make a mark in the global economy. That is what we want to do.

“Our development strategy is the masterstroke that will bring the real rapid transformation that we all earnestly seek.”

All these are just beer parlor gossips that mean nothing. Who is dozie nwankwo and amaechi to influence Anambra election.. Amaechi that couldnt influence his own Rivers state election. Laughable. Anambra politics is peculiar. APGA is the only party that has structure across the state and you people seem to forget the influence of Obiano.

All the big wigs in APC/PDP in Anambra all work for Obiano, including Ngige, Ben Obi, Chris Ubah. Why do you think Ngige has refused to contest election since Obiano. Obiano is the one that would deliver Soludo by landslide, not, Amaechi, Dozie Nwankwo, Tinubu or whoever and he's one of the governors that the president listens to. Dont forget soludo contested in 2010 and came third

That Soludo will win is not even a question to anyone. The landslide would be massive especially once Anambra Airport starts functioning.
PDP is not even in the question here, APC would never allow them win another state.

The only reason a soulless demon like Andy Uba would give anyone cause for concern is that Nigeria is the world's leader in sham elections.

Ordinarily, Andy Uba would lose woefully at the polls, but his handlers in Abuja are plotting the Hope Uzodinma strategy of using INEC and the Supreme Court to foist him over the state no matter what. The violence such an enterprise would generate is the reason folks are worried when you see a demon like this on any ticket.

Obiano is truly a man with 4 hearts! A Lion!!!

What has really impressed me is his insistence on delivery of an international standard high-quality airport! I must give A LOT of kudos to his equally fantastic Commissioner for Works Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor for being on point to ensure the highest quality on this project.

Did anyone notice that the steel pillars are not only being encased but being done EXACTLY to the specification in the 3D render? Look at one of the pillars and compare it to the render video. The same thing with the quality of rails on the ramp! No cutting of corners to build a shoddy project after putting up a beautiful 3D render. That is the level of attention to detail that has really impressed me about Obiano and this project.

Obiano is truly a gift to Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general!

I've always liked Chukwuma Soludo but i also admire Maduka and i'm angry at what PDP did to him. He should move to APGA asap like Soludo did.

Great progress of work on the completion of the interior of the terminal building, and installation of CAT 2 ILS and runway Lighting. They truly want to build a world-class airport facility. The terminal building is already looking like modern airport terminals that one sees in Europe and America.

I was so glad to observe that they are no longer driving cars with mud tires on the runway and apron. It builds up sand on the runway and apron which could be sucked into jet engines causing issues.

One hopes they will soon restrict the runway and apron such that only the construction companies will have access to these sensitive areas of the airport. The construction companies are also advised to be mindful not to buildup sand on the runway or apron with their trucks. Or, they will be responsible for sweeping the runway and apron after their construction to ensure they are totally free of sand or debris like sachet water packets.
