Robbers attacked motorists on Long Bridge, leaving one dead and vandalized their vehicles

The eyewitnesses revealed that the attacks took place between 9 pm to 10 pm at the time when the traffic on the bridge became slow. Mrs. Adeola Akinwunmi, who was one of the victims of the traffic robbery, revealed that she was yet to get over the shock from her ordeal. She further disclosed that she grabbed her child from the car and fled with her husband when they noticed other people were running towards their car.

Another victim identified as Adeola, who works as a journalist for a media house in Lagos State, revealed she and other victims returned to their vehicles after the gunshots. She added that the hoodlums broke into the vehicles and cart away valuable items belonging to the owners and other occupants.

Adeola said she lost her bag containing important documents to this traffic robbery as well as a laptop that belongs to her husband. According to her, those that decided to stay in their vehicles were attacked by these hoodlums, who inflicted injuries on them. She stated that the windshields of these vehicles were shattered by these traffic robbers in an attempt to gain access into them.

It was also reported by the witness that the driver of a Hilux pickup truck carrying an Indian man was stabbed in his head while the passenger was found gasping for breath. Adeola said the driver reportedly died the following day. She eventually approached the Warewa Police Station to report the attack in the company of her husband. The robbers eventually jumped off the bridge after carrying out their plan.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, who happens to be the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, while confirming the story, revealed that the police have been on the case and their officers were involved in a gun battle with the robbers on Tuesday. Oyeyemi stated that the robbers carried out their plan because of the traffic gridlock on the Long Bridge. The PPRO further stated that they are searching the bridge for bodies of those that might have died during the shootout.
