It's more reasonable to work with first degree cus you will be more exposed and experience after couple of years and the experience will determine your next degree. Your experience/exposure will help channel your path right.
Masters is not really a yardstick for employment, it's experience, we have few positions that require masters for entry.

With all the passion I put in for education, had I was this enlightened before then, I don't think I would have gone to school. I mean I was an epitome of academics in my community. People see me as demigod in terms of education then. After 5 years of graduation and even with some additional certificate courses, no job, man gat to find way and help himself. If not for self development, my brother school is a very big Scam

I don't know this trend in Nigeria now where people tend to write off education.
Imagine a country where almost everyone is rich but uneducated.
That's because after 4-6 years (not factoring in strikes) of university and a year of Nysc, the typical Nigerian graduate won't get meaningful employment for an average of 4 years.

Most Nigerian graduates aren't equipped enough to get high paying or even decent jobs in the country .Our educational curriculum is obsolete. If Nigeria have a world class education system , most of those graduates will be able gain employment if not in the country outside of it.

For Private it helps but government it very useless.
It is not useless in government work.
If u eventually get job with MSc in government work, they will put u for GL 09. No certificate is useless.
My uncle that couldnt get to the level of Deputy Director just because he is an HND holder, he will tell u the usefulness of MSc in government work.

. If you have 2 2 and your MA or MSC is 60 and above it will strengthen your employment opportunity. If you have 2.1 and your MA or MSC is 60 and and above is good too....I am talking about academic masters not social masters like MBA or MPA .Social masters are for administrative jobs However academic masters are acceptable too in administrative positions but social masters are not accepted in academics.Your choice of work determines what you will do and what is required

Experience (especially for science disciplines) and connection matters more.

Experience- companies will take someone with years of real live experience before someone with little experience but a master's degree.

connection- most job vacancies are taken before announcement.

your experience and skills (data analyst, web developer, typewriting ,HSE , engineering repairs, programming etc) helps more than your masters degree (Nigeriav churns out hundreds of thousands of master degree holders yearly)
Where I fit do HSE?

In Nigeria today having your M.Sc is good but it is not a grantee to get a job. Another important thing is this, which sector will you like to work?

U can even do masters with a third class. Some schools have that option of 5years waiting period before u can enroll for it.

No. The 2.1 requirement is for your bachelor degree and whatever added degree you have is pointless and useless if the bachelor degree isn't 2.1.

Sorry for being harsh but I have to state things the way they're.

In some universities, it will be stated with 2:1Masters suppose to supercede that standard varies. Kogi is hot today ooooo Bello no pay salary
Why do you expect one of Nigeria's poorest states to pay salaries? I'm even surprised salaries are paid to Kogi civil servants in the first place.

Well, good things can come out from Nazareth. kiss

I will approach this purely from real life experience using my office environment.
There is this IT guy that came in as a contract staff. In all honesty, he is a hand i trust so much and if i have any IT related issues, he is my go-to guy. Most other colleagues trust his skills and dexterity too. Usually my organization periodically arranges conversion for contract staff to be elevated into mainstream. This guy had most of us speaking for him and you would have assumed that his conversion will be a stroll in the park, or so it seemed until HR brought to our attention a policy of the company that stipulated new entrants must have a second upper (or Higher Distinction in HND). This my favored IT guy had a 3rd Class. The policy of 2.1 stood between him and that conversion till today. My point?

1. School certificates/degree is not a waste of time. Go through school and be sure to make the best grade possible
2. Don't lose focus, your side hustle may be what you need to keep surviving till the big bang
3. The person that does not want to help will tell you if only had a good degree/certificate. Shut him up with one
4. Having a 2.1 is a better problem to have than having a 3 class or a pass (the guy that had pass in my year in school is now the only SAN in my set, so while 2.1 is dope, what you do after the result speaks for you.
5. It appears that a Masters Degree will augment a 2.2 if you did not make a 2.1.
6. I have since realized that a stronger degree still puts you in a stronger position when the chips are down. Chevening scholarship will not consider you if you have anything lower than a 2.1. A number of other scholarships will talk to 2.1 first before talking to 2.2. The big 4 will almost always give a preference to a 2.1 before a 2.2. Until recently, banks will invite a 2.1 in any field for those jamboree tests.
7. Finally, I got all the jobs in my career without any internal connection. Aside God, my result and performance always stood me out. It can work for you too.

Make the best of all and every opportunity.
