Also for the fact that there are so few teams that participate - South America does not have more than 10 participating countries, so there is no qualifying rounds. Europe cannot even play Euro every two years even if they wanted to, due to the sheer size of participating countries - well over 50, just like AFCON. There must be qualifiers first, which of course takes time to complete.

This does not in any way devalue the Copa America. For instance, to put things in perspective, the CONMEBOL contributes no less than 5 Countries to the World Cup ( from a total of just 10 ie 50% percent of the countries are guaranteed presence in the world cup) while the whole of Africa with over 50 teams also contributes only 5 Countries to the World Cup ( just about 9-10%), should tell the whole story. Europe with 13 participations out of about 53 Countries only accounts for about 24%.

So clearly, the CONMEBOL are no push overs and the competition have alot of merit.

Like I mentioned above, they can afford to play every two years if they wanted. They have a small number of participating countries.
