Who told you the number the bandits used to call you...was their real number?

Remember the recent kidnap case in Abuja where the kidnappers demanded payment in bitcoin? They traced the number...to a random hawker in one of the markets. When questioned, the guy said one random woman bought his sim. Of course...he could not describe the woman..and he had never met her before in his life...nor did he see her again.

For all we know, them bandits have lots of such numbers...stolen, registered by proxies, or bought...and use their real numbers for non-criminal activities.

A better alternative would be to track the bandits via triangulation off the nearest mobile antenna.

Also, let's be honest. Our police gets 2 billion dollars to police 200 million people. NYPD of the USA gets 10 billion dollars to police 25 million people. Nigeria needs to change the way we run our economy to earn enough to fund our law enforcement adequately.
This your story sensible abi or you feel you dey talk with small children. Why do we have people that always give excuse for mediocrity?

But zombies have been jubilating that banditry has drastically reduced following senior terrorist Pantami imposition of NIN. I wonder how they're going to take this exposition. Or would they also call it a propaganda?

did the hawker reported the sim card in a police station? What gave the assurance that the hawker is an ordinary person? Sim-nin can't do anything, that's the whole truth

Why would he "report the sim card in a police station" when he sold his sim himself?!!

Oga, I think all these is just story, there is no political will to track bandits etc simply because they are Fulani. All these are just excuses. How did they track all those ipob, and unknown gun men etc?
How did they track someone I knew through landing from Abuja and staging to be DHL, grabbing me and leading to the fellow? I have experienced them personally and I know if they want to find any phone and anybody in this country and abroad, they can! Do you know they can activate your camera on your phone and see through it? You microphone nko? See your text, read your whatsapp etc.. They also triangulate easily on non internet phones? Even if you change your sim, they use your phone imei number to know the new sim on the phone?
Forget matter jare, if you want to get anyone they easily can.

A woman just walked up to you from nowhere, asked you to sell a registered sim to her and you did. She doesn't know the nearest MTN office. This your story is crooked. That means that the whole exercise is futile.
My brother, just leave the people with their politics unless you are a member yourself. The system is not working. Don't justify nothing. Imagine after all these your support, one day you find yourself in the hands of bandits using SIMs to make calls demanding for millions from your family. Then you will understand.
But I don't wish you that
Beancounter93:

The hawker sold his sim card to a woman who asked him to sell it to her...a woman he did not know at all. At no point did he know what the card would be used for, until the cops came knocking.

And we need a database of some sorts. That's why SIM-NIN linkage is important.

Infact, one reason why we need the linkage...people were buying pre-registered SIMS(essentially one guy can buy 50 sims, register them in his name, and then sell them on to individuals who don't want to wait in line for SIM registraiton)...which can make it dififcult to track kidnappers and bandits...who would buy such sims.

NIN was supposed to track EndSARS protesters if it ever repeated itself again. It’s not for political thugs, aka bandits. The government knows who and where they live

Forget politics. Criminals are far far intellgient.

Plus we don't know why the guy sold his SIM. Could have been broke, or could have felt he needed to dispose of one of his two sims...

I'm not into your North-South fight by the way.

SIM NIN linkage can't work

Simple system that can work starts from the health system, education and labour market

Then vote for a government that would have a database that covers everyone from the big town to the remote small village.

You can bet 1.9b of the 2b is pilfered by the higher-ups.

I can bet, like you do, that what we see is what we can get for 2 billion to police 200 million people.

One thing about Nigeria's economy, which is why I don't like Buhari...is that our economy is dependent on the price of oil. APC was voted to change that paradigm...and so far they have not.

Most African economies are dependent on the price of one or two resources we sell. When the price falls , the economy falls...and we take loans to make the difference. When the price rises, we have to pay back the loans and take new ones, because we lost money paying back the previous loans.....

Meanwhile, countries like CHina , Japan and South Korea long since learned that it is being an exporter of industrial products that is the road to prosperityespecially since you set your prices (unlike oil and copper where prices are set in London and New York).

To make matters worse...we think we can live off the proceeds of the revenue of our resources whose provenance is volatile....meanwhile most deveopied countries tax and tax and tax...in addition to their revenue

Nigeria is

1. Not earning enough from oil

2.Not earning enough from taxes...tax to gdp is 6.1%, 30% of the taxable population pays taxes.

And all this adds up to the police getting one fifth of what the NYPD gets to police a population ten times what the NYPD policies. It's why our police always seems so incompetent. The corruption of course, exists as a side effect.

We don't have state police, because it means

1.The states would have to fund it, which means heavy taxes for everyone...which you people don't like. (All those state and local police in the US are funded by heavy taxes...not by oil coming out of a well)

2.In the event of tribal warfare in one state, guess whose side the state police would be on (and it won't be the indigenes).

The Federal police, as bad as it is, is the least worst outcome.
