Good morning. I will soon be undergoing a digital training on Business Process Outsourcing, I want to know if there is anyone familiar with this field here on Nairaland.

What are your challenges? Can you work remotely for foreign companies? How lucrative or saturated is the business?
And any other thing as I am a complete newbie in this. Thanks.

Business process outsourcing (BPO) is a business practice in which an organization contracts with an external service provider to perform an essential business task.

Typically, an organization first identifies a process that is necessary for its operations yet is not part of its core value proposition in the market; this step requires a good understanding of the processes within the organization and strong business process management.

I have rendered some outsourcing services to some firms in Lagos and I can tell you companies are looking more at decentralising their operations to reduce OPEX and ensure more efficiency


Call centre operations/customer service
Procurement
Digital marketing
IT/Web Development
Etc.

are examples of departments that are outsourced to BPO service providers and this provides a huge market for BPO

Getting to work for a BPO firm can provide you all the knowledge you need to be an all-rounder on some operations.

Working remotely for a BPO firm comes with its challenges such as different time zones (for overseas firms), need to learn some new languages, use of digital tools and others.

We have only few BPO firms around and 90% are focused either on call center operations or IT.

Call centre. Google Tata consulting, they are very big in the business. In Nigeria BPO are like slave camps. Poor salary with long work hours.

I manufacture electronics and power supply systems. I also do home automation devices locally. I need a business expert to discuss with for a professional fee on what to do, what to look out for, how to maximize profit and what books to keep.
