Samtobh: Business process outsourcing (BPO) is a business practice in which an organization contracts with an external service provider to perform an essential business task.
Typically, an organization first identifies a process that is necessary for its operations yet is not part of its core value proposition in the market; this step requires a good understanding of the processes within the organization and strong business process management.
I have rendered some outsourcing services to some firms in Lagos and I can tell you companies are looking more at decentralising their operations to reduce OPEX and ensure more efficiency
Call centre operations/customer service Procurement Digital marketing IT/Web Development Etc.
are examples of departments that are outsourced to BPO service providers and this provides a huge market for BPO
Getting to work for a BPO firm can provide you all the knowledge you need to be an all-rounder on some operations.
Working remotely for a BPO firm comes with its challenges such as different time zones (for overseas firms), need to learn some new languages, use of digital tools and others.
We have only few BPO firms around and 90% are focused either on call center operations or IT.
Send a mail for more information if needs be. osuagwumike@gmail.com |

While BPO is good and lucrative, well in civilized climes, I will say most business in nigeria are yet to come to terms with it, and the few ones that have, under appreciate it. How do I mean by under appreciate? More than half of those that contract out parts of their BP do so to enslave. The contractual terms they give is so annoying, and the pay can be insulting. Meanwhile, this same set will pay more if they are to contact bigger and well organized firms, especially if the firm happens to have a white guy as CEO. It doesn't matter if the ceo or director has technical or professional knowledge of the field. I have actually handled BPO of one or two co belonging to the IT sector, and as I have always believed and say, Nigerians are yet to appreciate the usefulness of IT to biz operations and success; for this reason they mostly find it hard to pay for actual services rendered. I am not trying to generalise here, as there are companies that did appreciate IT, and of course BPO in nigeria. One aspect of BPO contract I know is very very lucrative is procurement, especially those of technical or professional sector. If one is hardworking and of course fortunate to jam or contract for a biz entity that needs this service, boom!
I am willing to share ideas, info, contact on how to contract a BPO offer in ICT firm, focusing especially on maintainance, procurement, and the likes 1 Like |

Thanks so much for this lengthy contribution. For how long have you been in the field? And it is very true that most Nigerian companies do not appreciate these services. Not only in BPO, but other sectors as well. Reason why I'm asking if one can work remotely for foreign BPO companies. But in this case, you will have to be under someone, not your own boss. And how do you get your clients too? olasquare: While BPO is good and lucrative, well in civilized climes, I will say most business in nigeria are yet to come to terms with it, and the few ones that have, under appreciate it. Emeraldfynest: Good morning. I will soon be undergoing a digital training on Business Process Outsourcing, I want to know if there is anyone familiar with this field here on Nairaland.
What are your challenges? Can you work remotely for foreign companies? How lucrative or saturated is the business? And any other thing as I am a complete newbie in this. Thanks.
No problem, just go and study the business pattern of airtel, mtn, some banks, and oil companies then you will get a practical knowledge. You may even ask their staff about their working conditions and the type of staff they are (contract/casual). Another example is why we have private security guards of another company, same with cleaners. They are all managed by one crayfish/cockroach company usually owned by politicians and girlfriend or wife of chairman or government officials 1 Like |

I wish to know and work for a foreign company remotely. I have heard those doing so in these sectors, (1) web development (2) software/app development (3) digital marketing (4) content managers and the biggest if course procurement |

Business Process Outsourcing is also the process of finding the right or qualified Service Provider or contractor that will carry out a basic service or need of the company that requires professionals to handle. The process of outsourcing involves puting up a tender through the requisite platform and inviting registered tenderers to bid technically and commercially. The selected and qualified bidder, takes the job according to terms and conditions agreed upon. Example of outsourcing services include procurement, freight forwarding, security, offshore logistics, I.T/Developers etc. |

MAURI: Hi,
Kindly send a dm. I was involved in the project when my company was moving jobs to India. We still make use of their services in India, but now through Tata as 3rd party. As someone rightly noted, Tata is very big in this business. Most of the India IT experts (Infosys et al) in Naija are also through Tata. Nigeria should actually have looked into this opportunity long ago, considering that we have a huge pool of young graduates. It's a big source of forex inflow and knowledge transfer for India. You will require very good infrastructures to support BPO and talented graduates and professionals to perform the tasks. 1 Like 1 Share |

I think it's the right decision to outsource some processes. Often large companies have problems with the quality of service. A good partner can be https://wow24-7.io/chat, where online support is available 24/7. I checked on my own experience, by outsourcing the call center function, the company's reputation has greatly improved. |
