Let us debate this. Of what relevance is the senate? To me, the senate should be SCRAPPED. At LG level we have only one representation, the councilors. At the state level, we have the State Assembly why are we having two houses at the federal level? Of what relevance is the senate, except to create a haven for ex-governors and ministers to continue to milk the nation.
Please, join this call for the scrapping of the senate. It is not everything we inherited or copied from our colonial past is relevant to today's Nigeria.
Secondly, funding the senate has become a source of financial woe. Why are we spending a whopping N14.5m x 109 per month for irrelevance, yet borrowing to fund the budget? The money we are spending on senators can conveniently complete the coastal rail or even provide better education and health facilities. If we channel all those monies on our decaying infrastructure Nigeria would be a better place to behold.
Support the voice vote to scrap the Senate and let us LOUD IT until it becomes defeaning. Publish it everywhere, join the call to do away with the senate. We can strengthen the NASS and make it more useful and relevant than continuing to carry political baggage like the Senate.
