FOLLOWING the arrest of Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho) on Monday, his legal representative, Chief Yomi Alliyu has alleged that his client is facing inhuman treatment, as his legs and hands are allegedly tied like an animal in police custody in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

The lawyer, in a statement he released on Tuesday, claimed that Igboho is being treated less than an animal in police custody, based on what he termed “order from above,” and may appear before a court today for an extradition order.

“Just about three minutes ago, I got a call from a reliable source from the authorities in the Republic of Benin that Sunday Igboho has been put in a very dehumanising condition in a police cell in Cotonou.

“The source told me that they are under instruction by an order from the above that Igboho should be chained like an animal waiting to be slaughtered. He told me that Igboho was tightly chained to the floor and he is in serious pains.

“While I was talking to the source by telephone, I can hear our client crying and asking that the chains be removed and that he is in pains. But I can hear one officer telling him that they cannot remove the chains as they are acting on instruction,” he said in the statement.

Alliyu insisted that the extradition order being sought by the Nigerian authorities may not likely sail through, given the status of Igboho as a political offender.

“I know that our client, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho Oosa), would be taken to a court in Cotonou, the capital of the Republic of Benin, tomorrow [today].

“The Nigerian authorities and security operatives that arrested him would be approaching the court for an extradition order to bring Sunday Igboho back to Nigeria.

“But it is not likely that the extradition order being sought for would sail through. This is because of the status of our client as a political offender who enjoys immunity against extradition. Like I said in a press release earlier today, even his arrest by security operatives was against the political nature of his offence.

“There is an existing ex- tradition treaty between four West African countries of Nigeria, Togo, Ghana and Benin Republic, which grants Igboho immunity from being extradited from the Republic of Benin.

“The Extradition Treaty of 1984 between Togo, Nigeria, Ghana and Republic of Benin excluded political fugitives. It also states that where the fugitive will not get justice because of discrimination and/ or undue delay in prosecution, the host country should not release the fugitive.

“Article 20 of African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights to which the four countries are signatories made agitation for self-determination a fundamental right to be protected by all countries,” he said.

You can chain and lock up Igboho and Kanu,

but you cannot lock up our minds as to the union of this country;

a union of darkness and light.

You can break our bones but you cannot break our spirit.

The movement is beyond the individuals

...and there will be more.

No separatist is complete without experiencing prison times....

This is a phase in their agitation.. Let's see what will happen after this regime.... If they continue to seek for their own country... then their interest is genuine and pure...

To be like Nelson Mandela... You Sha have to expect worse sceneries of political torturing.... Nothing comes easy...

I just hope the people will stand by them and not abandoned them to their date alone...

What is this thing with Africans tying someone like an animal... when there are handcuffs?

Is there any need for dehumanizing him? Did he commit any crime in Cotonou to begin with? What was their reason for arresting him?

These are the reasons why African nations will continue to be third world countries...until they stop reasoning like animals..and start acting civilized.

Though he may not be chained, I like media noise on Igboho.

I give it to South West, when it comes to using media as a weapon of Defence or Attack. Even if FG plans to chain him like that, they would rethink.

Same method APC used to dislodged PDP.

Media has power....good governments are now having interest in our FG actions... If Buhari continues like this, he may meet his Waterloo

All these grandstanding " Do you know who i am"?? no dey work for other African countries.

That's why they deal with our unruly citizens in their country when we try the trash we try at home.

That's how they keep their citizens under check.

See Nnamdi Kanu forming "Buhari tormentor" that plans to go to Abuja to bring back Buhari's head.......... it's Kenyans that beat his head senseless before chaining him down, something that can never happen to him in Nigeria.

Same with Igboho that stormed the Nigerian border, chased the custom officers away and seized their weapons all the while parading as a leader of one of the largest tribes in Nigeria......its ordinary Benin Republic that caught him like a baby and chained him up inside a cell. I doubt if Nigerian authorities would have treated him like that.

This is evidence that Buhari is soft on anarchists heating up the country.

United Kingdom of Benin republic abi?

Let bet if Nigeria government can say anything about his arrest again.

The government can't say anything again about igboho arrest because they ashamed that Benin Republic practice standard human right.

Sunday was released by 4 PM on Tuesday and he arrived Germany by 8 PM and currently in UK after some hours.

Nigeria government can manipulate Kenya but not her neighbors. All Nigeria neighbors know that human right is not existing in Nigeria.

Where is the cell they keep him in Benin or you think he should have bundle into Nigeria without legal procedures.

You thought the way Nigeria system is the same with other countries. The system Nigeria government operate in 2021 is out dated, we need to upgrade
