Igbos Hate Themselves/not United Delusion by D1official: 2:33pm On Jul 24, 2021
It's a pity that from 1970 till date many lies has been peddled by Nigerians and it's media just to discredit and perhaps cage the Igbo nation with propaganda's and unproven realities, But thank God for the era we have found ourselves in. So today I just decided to open a tread to dimistify one of those numerous lies against the Igbo nation...

If the igbos are not united/love themselves why?

1. RELIGION : Among the major tribes in Nigeria it is only the igbos that have over 90% of it's populace as Christians in the entire nation.

2.Philantropy: In the east you would lose count of roads, schools, churches and houses built and donated to the community or people by the igbos. During the covid lock down we saw how the east turned there region to "free food zone "through charity, what about the likes of Dr. Maduka, innoson, obijackson and Obi cubana just to list but a few...

3.Pre/post colonial era : Among the major tribes it was only the igbos that was never conquered or lost its territories to any, lived in peace with its neighbours like the ibibios and effik...We also saw how the madness of Fulani's engulfed the west and the north but was quenched in no time in the east.

4.HOMELAND: Igbos are scattered all over the world, yet majority of them always find there way back home every festive period mostly "Decembers".It is only the igbos that would make money and go back to there village in the middle of nowhere and erect a mansion amongst his kinsmen, tar the road and may even decorate it with street lights, little wonder the entire eastern villages have mansions(NNEWI,OBA,ABILIBA...)

5. MARIAGE: Over 85% of igbos are still married to igbos irrespective of how traveled they are, it's only in igboland that you would see people based in Germany and other parts of the world longing to settle down with an Igbo bride.

6. SELF HELP: The Igbo apprenticeship system "igba boy" has proven to be the most invaluable system of self help in Nigeria, and it's certainly the reason for Igbo dominance of some sectors of the economy...it's a system built on unity and love.

7. CLUSTERS: Igbos are the most clustered of all tribes in Nigeria, they live in harmony and unity where ever they are(South Africa, Lagos, Kano...).

8.RESTORATION: Igbos lost over 3 million people and everything they owned, 51 years later they are arguably the most advanced tribe/richest tribe in Nigeria. How did they achieve such feat without love/unity...

I am of the opinion that the phrase "IGBOS ARE NOT UNITED/LOVE THEMSELVES " only has significance in Nigerian politics and nothing else...

undecided Not to counter your argument, but you need to state the true situations about some of your points:

1. The Igbos are majorly christians but the rivalry between Anglican and Catholics has assumed a proportion bordering on the madness of the Shiite and Sunni debacle

3. The Igbos were under the constant raids of renegade Tiv warriors and bands of Jukuns from the northern fringes of the Oban hills. Add that to the fearsome domination of the Aros who subjected other Igbo tribes to their brutal raids and rule set up a thriving slave trade of their fellow Igbos.

The igbos like every other tribes are united by reason of the homogenity of culture and language. Only fools take pockets of disagreements on any issue to cite that Igbos or any other tribes are not united

The problem with the Igbos has always been the lack of an indigenous media to tell our own side of the story..
As a result, lies and propaganda are often forced down our throat.

Can you now tell us how Yoruba's are more united than the igbos without involving Nigerian politics please?

Rubbish. The truth is that you Igbos are a patently dishonest, clannish and tribalistic people always happy to deny the truth because you hate outsiders, and even yourselves, while remaining obsessed with telling lies and making excuses you assume make you appear superior to others.

Rather than agree you are a sexist people who discriminate against the rights of women to have fundamental equal rights in society, you will claim others who try to empower women are weak and 'naive' folks who do not see the danger of elevating "Jezebels".

Chinamanda Adichie, your biggest female heroine, raised the issue and she was shouted down vehemently by you sexist bigots. I am sure she now knows to shut up in future lest she incurs the wrath of the most sexist, oppressive, chauvinistic and discriminatory male folks in the entire universe.

When you should agree you are religiously intolerant and need to change you will instead insist all Moslems are evil and even create a "Yerooba moslem" tag to justify your unrepentant intolerance that can never birth the equitable societies you Igbos travel worldwide to take advantage of.

There is literally a million example of how aberrant Igbos are but the common theme is your complete denial of what you do wrong and the ridiculous extent you Igbos are willing to go to just to make excuses for your odious ways rather than accept you need to change and learn from others.

Please, waste no time. Go and create an indigenous media spin industry to whitewash your image. See if that solves the core problem of you people and your obsession with living in denial and never seeing your own wrongdoings and maladjusted ways.

First of all, If igbos discriminate against their women, why are Igbo women the most educationally advanced group in Nigeria even passing their men
And why do they disproportionately hold a lot of powerful positions such as the world trade order, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Second of all, the reason igbos are not really that tolerant of other religions is because they are extremely religiously homogenous as compared to the yorubas that are divided 50 50 into Christianity and Islam so it would take them longer to get used to.
Tolerance comes with necessity.

You see ba, it’s about statistics and not word of mouth.

Me personally, I don’t give a Bleep about what religion you are as I’m an atheist.

The lies and propaganda are shoved down your throats by igbo people. Don’t get it twisted, you people kill each other over mango. You don’t need much propaganda from outside to cut each other’s joysticks and then go online to defend the barbaric act. What outside media do that to you people?

Cool but Igbos are majorly christians because when the white man came you people were still naked and thick forrest dwellers, in order words, still living in the Stone Age and weren’t exposed to outside cultures besides slave raiders the way the Tuaregs, Hausas, Fulanis, Nupe and Yorubas were

Lol if your tribe is equally split into two religions, that means nothing more than you where colonised twice, the Fulani and the whites colonised you. Funny enough, the white man didn’t even have to start a war to conquer your people. Whilst the different parts of igboland held them at bay for many years.

Out of all the tribes in Nigeria, I think yorubas should be the last to tell Igbo people that they where living in the Stone Age.

And why is it that Yoruba people where the second most enslaved race during the transatlantic slave trade after Mbundu if you all weren’t exposed to slave raiders.
You people have been trying to attach with the the Edos because of your dark past

Even during the transaharan slave trade, your people where sold like gala by northern Fulani marauders.

We are happy to boast that we don’t have any emir within our land, we had our own calendar, writing system, currencies, indigenous clothing, unlike the yorubas who where taught everything they knew by the fulanis.

If I tell you the achievements Igbo people had before the white man came, you will start crying that Chinedu has started chest beating again due to your poor ego

Anyways I won’t go any further since I don’t like insulting yorubas, so don’t force me to

TL;DR.

Just because someone is Muslim doesn’t mean they were colonised by a fulani. Same way the Fulanis weren’t colonised by arabs but were influenced. See, Yorubas, Fulanis, Tuaregs, the people of karnem-borno took up Islam via trade and exposure to Northern Africa.

Igbo people were too far hinterland and were wild savages that didn’t get exposed to these other cultures until the white men came. Don’t be mad at me, blame your ancestors who didn’t explore and embark on conquest missions like the Yoruba empires and kingdoms did.

This just shows how ignorant you are and I’m not going to argue with you on that

Show me your indigenious writing system
Igbo: nsibidi script, aniocha script, etc
Yoruba:?

Show me your indigenious calendar
Igbo: ogbuafo Igbo
Yoruba:?

Show me your indigenious education system
Igbo: Igba odibo/ Igbo apprenticeship system
Yoruba:?

Show me your indigenious currency
Igbo: Ejemma/okpogho
Yoruba:?

Show me your indigenious textiles
Igbo: akwete, akwaocha
Yoruba:?

These where all achieved by the savage Igbo people, but the civilized Yoruba people could not achieve this why? Aren’t these evidence of civilisation

I wouldn’t be bragging about one audio empire that lost a large portion of territory to a few Fulani marauders and got one of your oba put in the mud by some breast swinging girls from Dahomey

Your people dey die for democracy, something the Igbo had achieved since...
And I know that you would prefer a democratic system to a dictator/monarch that sits down on his throne deciding for everyone else like they’re slaves.

I’m proud of how organised we where without an empress or emperor. Btw, studies have shown that democracy is more evident in places with higher sophistication

I’m proud of my ancestors because they gave us the ability to say that we didn’t import most of our civilisation from other cultures

This your proposition tells so much about the 'Igbo.'

Being different (not seeing things your own way) means we're children of hate.

With this attitude, good luck to Biafra.
