NAF did little, they haven't learnt how to safely locate and extract pilots, imagine using his own phone?! cry

Well said mate !

A commercial Satellite Communicator can do GPS Navigation, Location Sharing and SMS. This should be issued to every pilot sitting in a cockpit. Additionally there should be a GPS beacon in the aircraft for easy location of the wreck.

Here a retired veteran Nigerian Air Force officer who fought in both ECOMOG wars explains what happens at ejection when a pilot loses control of his fighter jet noting fighter pilots have a locator/beacon on their flight suit

Wish these fine journalists will let the experts speak and not make interludes at every turn

A good thing though the networks are bringing on retired military officers to educate viewers

Another fine conversation with the Group Captain this time on a non-Buhari-biased-network where the speaker was allowed to more freely speak his mind without much interruption especially when saying something that does not sit too well with the current administration in Abuja with the hosts jumping in to cut him off as was the case on TVC.

Again here the retired Air Force officer educating the erudite Journalist Reuben Abati who keep referring to the A-29 Super Tucano as a fighter Jet that it is not a jet but turboprop.

The veteran deserve commendation even though I disagree with him on the JF-17 Thunder except on the numbers acquired.

A 34-year-old football enthusiast, Emmanuel Samuel, has died after a policeman allegedly shot him at a relaxation spot in FCT Abuja. Emmanuel was said to have gone to the spot with his fiancée and friends to watch a football match on Sunday, July 11, when the incident happened.

PUNCH Metro learnt the victim was leaving the bar when the policeman shot him in the leg after he cautioned him against accidental discharge. His sister, Veronica Samuel, said a hospital in the area refused to attend to him without a police report. She added that her brother was taken to a police station to get the report, but the police threatened to handcuff him. Veronica said the victim died 8 days later.

Recounting the incident, she said, “My brother went to watch the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy with his fiancée and friends at the Emperor Garden in Saburi 1, Mopol Barracks. The police went to the place to arrest someone.

“He was leaving the place at that point in time when he saw one of the policemen cocking his gun and pointing it in his direction. His friends said he told the policeman to be mindful of the way he was pointing the gun to avert accidental discharge which could kill people at the spot. He was leaving when a shot was fired.

“The bullet hit him in his left lap from behind and came out in the front. Immediately, the police fled the scene. His fiancée and others took him to a hospital, but a police report was requested. They went to the police station in the area, but they refused to give a police report and threatened to handcuff my brother, who was in pain.

“Instead of giving us the report, they referred us to an ill-equipped hospital close to the station. They went with us there and said he was in their custody and he would be handcuffed there. We resisted that. When we discovered it was getting worse, we took him to the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, where he died on July 19. According to one of the doctors there, he could have been alive if he had better first aid. We went back to report his death at the station, but we were sent away. “

A spokesperson for the FCT police, ASP Mariam Yusuf, said the command was investigating the matter. He said, “We are appealing for more information from members of the public on the identity of the person who shot the deceased.”

You brought this here to counter but it still does not prove the point you want it to.
We all know accidental discharge happens alot because some of this junior officer's in the force are not yet ripe to handle a rifle.
Even in the army accidental discharge do happen.
Most times you have your gun on you with the mindset that the gun is not corked or on safety, sometimes you don't know there is a round in the chamber of the rifle.
What I want is the stats that prove that a lot of individuals arrested by the police are innocent

Good interview!! Frankly i share his scepticism buying the JF17 at this point of time.

You don't wait for war to prepare for war that is why we are where we are now. Militaries go to war with what they have and in that time of closing equipment gaps they find they have a mountain to climb to restore the status quo. Nigeria bought 3 examples of the JF-17 Thunder Air Superiority Fighter for evaluation.

So far in exercises against Rafales in air-air combat the JF-17 has performed better in certain parameters than the F-16 in Pakistani inventory scoring more hits against the Rafale.

In fact certain elements already present in the JF-17 are only now been incorporated into the more modern Rafale F4 variant not yet in active service with the French Air Force. The Chinese are not selling the J-10 to anyone now rather in collaboration with the Pakistanis made the JF-17 Block 3 variant for export which incorporates all the technology already existent on the J-10. One advantage of the JF-17 overall apart from performance is it is cheap to operate and maintain a key factor in air warfare.

Even if we go for the single engine Russian stealth Checkmate as a fighter of the future there's no evidence presently it will survive 10 years as technologies continue to evolve making stealth obsolete besides it's very expensive signature to maintain and run.

Nations including the United States are opting for 4.5 generation fighters in numbers because in a real war that is what you will need for saturation to overwhelm enemy resistance.

No I don't agree with the Group Captain's submission. Rather I agree with his argument that for Nigeria's size we can't be buying military weapons and equipment piecemeal. All said and done we both agree we can't rush to buy in numbers without proper evaluation.

The alliance has been formed for long, if you can remember last year around Sallah, when bandits in Niger state released a video pledging loyalty to boko haram.
And the now late bandit (DOGO GEDE) that was killed last year in Zamfara received training and weapons from boko haram, they were among the first set of Bandits/rustlers to start calling them self Boko haram, here in kaduna even before they moved to zamfara

What do you mean?
The policeman pointed his rifle to the victim, with the intention to kill. There is nothing like accidental discharge. Nothing would had happened if the policeman didn't pull the trigger. The policeman should know better, not to "play" with his rifle

I had come to believe that every security problem we have in our country, is directly or indirectly caused and fueled by one or all of the tiers of our government.
We keep making excuses for our shortcomings. Seriously, we wouldn't move forward until we decide to do so
