I'm even ready to learn now, please lecture me on how this deal is a good deal.
Honestly, for the Army i will prioritize UCAVs over helicopters. I hope the deal is for the airforce, even though its for the airforce, it should be the supercobra variant.
In the army purchase scenario, we should prioritize the purchase of IFVs, APCs and MBTs to cover, occupy ground and protect our infantry. For now, the army don't need this expensive choppers. We all saw the supplementary allocation for the Army. If this deal is real, it will take a large chunk of it. Our problem isn't aircover, Bokoharam don't have aircover but they conduct successful operations. We need good and fresh capable troops and effective ground equipment to end this COIN war. The army need ground equipment, rather than making these purchases. It isn't a good deal.

Do the U.S use its law enforcement agencies on its people? Does it allow the extra judicial killings by its police on its people nearly on a weekly basis? Does it government allow organised bandits and terrorists kidnap school children, ravage its lands for a decade?

USA has a childish way of threatening countries that buy weapons from others, especially Russia. They want to be the sole provider while treating buyers like trash. And in most cases, their value doesn't match the price they charge.
Not true. They only threaten those who want to eat from both sides. Especially when it comes to serious equipment. Turkey had entered into the F35 program and was still seeking to buy S-400 missile systems. Iraq did similar stuff as well. F35 fighters are still the most advanced jets currently.

Army recruitment: Zulum approves N12.8m support for 641 Borno candidates

… Adds N15,000 as monthly allowance

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Wednesday approved N12.8m as support for 641 candidates currently at their final stage of exercises to qualify for recruitment into the Nigerian Army's 81 regular intake for 2021.

Zulum announced the support, while addressing the candidates at Maimalari barracks in Maiduguri. The Governor was received at the barracks by the theatre commander of operation Hadin Kai, Major General Christopher Musa.

The 641 candidates, each of whom is to get N20, 000, were those who passed different stages of medical and fitness tests and soon to leave for final military fitness exercises at Falgore Game Reserve in Kano from where successful candidates will be recruited into the army.

Governor Zulum urged all the candidates, many of whom hailed from the 27 local government areas of Borno state to be good ambassadors of the state.

"I commend your patriotism for choosing to enlist into the Army. However, as citizens of Borno, I advise that you should be good ambassadors of our State. Under no circumstances should you behave wrongly anywhere outside. Insha’ Allah, we shall provide the needed support to all of you” Zulum said.

The Governor, in addition to his release of N12.8m also approved N15,000 monthly to support each of the 641 candidates during the last stage of the recruitment exercises.

Successful candidates from across the country are expected to proceed to the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria for other stages of their recruitment training.

I saw the report yesterday and immediately searched everywhere to see if another media house reported it and I couldn't find any.
For now no major news outlet have reported the news.

SaharaReporters is wrong in their headline. The deal was not stopped. Someone raised preliminary objections and they want to talk to the FG.

1) yes, many law enforcement agents kill their citizens especially black civilians and many get away with it. Are we living in a different universe? Secondly, Trump recently pardoned convicted criminals who killed civilians for fun in Iraq.

2) yes, they not only allow but encourage extra-judicial killings of people. You are more likely to be shot by a US officer than by a Nigerian officer because unlike in our case, anybody could be armed in the US so they are more ruthless.

3) the Free Syrian Army, Al Nusra, etc all enjoy US support even though they have been caught behaving like Isis on many occasions.

This is just the tip of the iceberg self.

But the CAATSA terms doesn't put it that way. Also, India faced similar threats when they bought the S-400

Stop mentioning Iraq and Syria. Those are warzones. Let's talk bout mainland United states.
You talk about black people been killed. Yeah. We all know about racism in the U.S. Nigeria is a predominantly populated by black people. What is the excuse? Tribalism We have no excuse for extra judicial killings. Just because a first world country commit crimes, doesn't justify us doing the same thing. Mind you, Nigeria is worse. You talked about weapons in hands of civilians in the U.S. Do u have any idea the large amount of weapons in circulation in Nigeria? It might not be as much as the amount in the U.S,but it is a bad situation cos we have no data and majority ain't licensed.

Warzone? Is that the sole excuse you have for those attacks? By the way, the Iraq war itself is a crime that Nigeria can never match.

Look, I'm not in any way saying that Nigeria is good. We are messed up in a lot of ways, but facts don't lie. We have nothing on USA when it comes to human rights violations (mind you, I said USA and not other western countries). They are just better at downplaying it.

That they are maintaining friendly relations with Saudi Arabia and Israek speaks volume about their concern with human rights. Anyways, let's not derail this beautiful thread

For the sake of discussion wink

I don't really understand what they tend to achieve with the media silence. A retired airforce pilot was on Arise TV the other day saying the NAF jet crashed on the last day of a 6 days operation and we didn't even hear anything up until the jet was shot down.

They need to understand the fact that showing strength and actions of the military serves as a huge deterrence to several groups that are aspiring to be like BH.

Anyways let me give a "uninformed" opinion for whats it worth

I would have gotten Mi17s with guaranteed after sales support for atleast 5 years direct from OEM, organize them into 3-4 air cavalry (air assault) groups with well equipped & trained troops solely for conducting behind the line operations be it interdiction of supply lines , hit and run, reinforcement , ground holding till linkup etc

How do i put it , successfull and effective CI/CT ops are best done through close contact combat, mission yields are more generally, insurgents / terrorists usually are the ones to take the initiative to attack, you need to reverse it, find them and hit them on your terms for that rapid vertical deployment is the need of the hour

Fair warning i repeat it is a uninformed opinion with no inputs as to the actual compulsions / requirements / idea on ground realities . It is easy to give opinions especially when ones neck is not on the line , there are worth a dime a dozen in real life , actually worthless grin

Nigeria is fighting cowards and opportunistic attackers. We call them ISWAP.
All what you posted above does not work. There are no major ISWAP bases to speak of outside of the Lake Chad Islands area.
There are makeshift settlements everywhere that their cells use.
The Nigerian Army comes across and overruns these frequently and they post pictures of burning motorbikes, hard drugs, stolen vehicles and abandoned weaponry.
The enemy is not holding a fixed position and does not come out to fight until it sees weakly defended outposts or temporarily depleted bases. Most attacks are exploited for propaganda values and pictures are posted on SM. This is why air assault groups won't work. The enemy would simply either run away or their bases would be just too small to justify the mission in most cases.
However using air assault as follow up to air strikes might be a good idea.

Yes sir, the media silence is what is mostly contributing to some quarters claiming the military is not doing anything, imagine what headlines like "gallant Nigerian female soldiers repelled bandits attack killing 16 and suffer 0 casualty" will do to there moral and increase our SELF-ESTEEM
