The denial followed a viral message circulating on social media alleged that the Kano State Government and the Council of Ulama were planning a bill to ban women from driving.

The message said the decision was taken at a secret meeting at the Kano State Sharia Commission, which was attended by the Commissioner of Religious Affairs Dr Muhammad Tahar Adamu (Baba Impossible) and representatives of the scholars led by Sheikh Abdulwahab Abdallah of BUK.

It also alleged that Sheikh Abdallah Usman Umar Gadon Kaya was at the forefront of the move, saying that “allowing women to drive is a setback for Muslims.”

Also according to the message, Baba Impossible has promised the scholars that he will convince the governor to stop immoral acts, while the Hisbah board vowed to implement the bill when passed into law.

But the commissioner told the BBC that there is no iota of truth in the viral message, adding that he has also seen the message just like others.

Baba Impossible said even his colleagues at the Kano State Executive Council have asked him about the message but told them it was not true.

Of course it isn't, not for Muslim women and definitely not for women in other religions, but watch as some react as if this is coming from a reputable source like the Senate.
