INFP:I agree with your point, if na connection towards getting jobs I don't know for that one oh. Because most people with good connection before the job show self na problem, but las las e go still show. But when it comes to skills, bros most people are not willing to learn, well me inclusive. The skill I picked was even subconsciously, didn't know that it would serve me one day just saw it as a means to get some fast cash in my pocket then, but presently that's what is feeding, clothing and housing me. My guys go show dey ginger, bros show us way naw, you go explain tired and none go get mind to even invest anything (time or resources) into it. We are all important towards eachother success but presently my best motivation is just to take my time and do what I want and invest it on myself towards getting more skills and more knowledge. Self interest sounds selfish but it is better than self sacrifice, when you go for what you want and you succeed you can easily help more people compare to scarifying yourself to please people. As my guy jay z would say, I can't help the poor if I am one of them so I got rich and gave back, to me that's a win win. |

zanshi:Sweetheart, you are right, but some people function more when alone, and some function with network. What you feel works for you apply it. That's life. You can't force an introvert to be who he or she is not, it's uncomfortable. And you can't force an extrovert to be who he or she is not. And when you talk of people being arrogant or stubborn, well if you really want to network why would you perceive such people in such light in the first place. Networking isn't only in getting old contacts, but understanding the inner plight, of what the person is going through. The person you're networking needs to trust you and you to trust him with no prejudice. But if you're using phrases like, stubborn and arrogant, etc. How in the world would you successfully network which such people that have a lot to give when you win their trust. ![]() |

There are really no excuses in life for a man who is ready. Motivational text from a drunk nerd. Anyway, would have love to network but folks from way back (inner circle from high school) be feeling funky once you let them in about a budding idea, some will just ignore you altogether. So I took the long route because the short cuts to success is fraught with dangers. I never reach where I dey go but I get destination.. |

zanshi:Maybe Ahmadu Bello University be having occasions where ex students reunite and present students have the opportunity to make connections .... Alma Mater Day. Like you stated... it is difficult to connect to past students after graduating. That's not how it works. Connections need to be made before graduating. I'm not sure which is more important for someone attending university ... graduating with the degree or making a whole lot of connections... networking in preparation for post university. It's not much one can do now ... but my advice to anyone in university is to make connections with as many students as possible ... regardless of their field of study ... of their status in society ... their religion .... their tribe ... or State ... and stay in contact after graduation. It will always... always be beneficial to you personally. Conduct yourself well while in university ... because after leaving ... that is the impression others would have of you.... whether or not you change after. University is where you have opportunities to make connections to people who are most likely to be in positions of power ... it is up to the individual to grab the opportunities then when the door is wide open. |

zanshi:started my career as a contractor few years ago. I got a private contract of building 2 houses from a high school friend who is an Architech. As we speak sef he is designing another Duplex and I will be the one to build the house. My brother it depends on the kind of friends you keep and the school you attended. Connection is very very important in this Nigeria we live in Today. I haven't got any connect from UNI though. |

God is the ultimate connection. He will link you to People (known and unknown). Some friends no be am o. A quote says "Brotherhood or Siblings don't mean you'll receive mercy from them but it is the person God sends to someone that will do the good and bless them" Another notable quote is that "Nobody really wants you to be better than them besides your parents" Networking can never be overestimated but do it the right way. Put these quotes in mind, maintain a good relationship with God, have an open mind, do not intentionally sever all links to people because na person God go use help you too. |
