Ask your friend what he did to offend the herdsmen, let's start from there. Idiot!
What did these people do to deserve this level of wickedness??

I agree with you about restructuring. But I want to point out that in a restructured Nigeria, the federating units would not have have their own armed force. They would have their own police but not an armed force(army)

netmillionaires:
When you try it, they will still come to rustle your cattle with guns and the government will pretend not to notice.

If you acquire guns to protect yourself, the government will come to collect your gun... The best way is restructuring. If we restructure and build a formidable armed force in the south, no herder would try this nonsense since they know that FG will not be able to save them.

It will be very easy to boycott their meat by simply growing yours and controlling the distribution channel so that every consumer knows where the meat s/he is buying comes from.

40 acres still approximately 30 football pitch.

Please howhuh?
I though you meant the farm land is too much for cattle to destroy.

In Benue their cattle have destroyed more than that.

Even though the marauding and privileged herders are capable of anything, I still couldn't see evidence of destruction of a 40 - acre farmland above.
The criminal actions of herders who destroy people's farms and investments are totally condemnable. That said, like you pointed out there is no evidence that there was destruction of any 40 - acre farmland as the Op posits. The original farm pictures had rows of corns and no evidence of palm trees while the latter pictures had only palm trees. More importantly, the source of the story is questionable and may not suffice as a credible source. I call on the owner of this site to request his mods to be more diligent in scrutinizing the stories that grace the front page of this forum.

It is really painful for any crop farmer to experience the destruction of their farm by livestock. However, this picture you posted appeared like the destructive animals are West African Dwarfs goats which are majorly bred by Southerners. These breeds are not known to be bred by the Fulani herders.

That is the way we see it but then nothing stops a federating unit from arming its police so much that even the army would not date harass them as it is the habit currently.

There would be laws against turning a federating unit police into an army.

You also seem to forget that in a restructured Nigeria the presidential powers would be watered down drastically. The president can't just use the army to harass any of the federating units. There would be laws on how the Nigerian army would be used and how it wouldn't be used.
The president also does not have power over the federating units. He has no say whatsoever In the internal workings of the federating units.

Also, you seem to misunderstand the function of the army.

The way we in Nigeria use our army is basically an abuse of the army. The army has no business with internal conflicts. But because of our foolishness we call on the army at every turn.

Lol! You want to fence 40 hectares or even acres? Wey the money? They will break down the fence and still enter from the back where you won't notice immediately...
Yusfunoble:
sad

This is very sad. It’s even more frustrating because there’s nothing you can do about it.

I think people should start fencing their farmland. We are sharing country with cows.
