If one murdered a person, felt guilty and and knocked on the door of the family of the person he murdered to confess and ask for forgiveness, that does not excuse him from the law. Asking for forgiveness is not complete if he can not accept the punitive consequences of his action. That is taking responsibility and being responsible!
