Detailed Assessment Of The Proposed Ibom Republic.

As Nigeria's labour pains continue to throb violently, in the offing is the birth of another nation, set to emerge from Nigeria's South South region : Ibom Republic (present day Akwa Ibom state).

Resting on the near eastern flank of the South South in today's Nigeria is Akwa Ibom state. The state is mostly homogenous and by implication if it does secede, may represent roughly the fourth homogenous nation to be birthed from Southern Nigeria, after Biafra, Oduduwa nation and Izon Nation. Several other non homogenous but culturally similar nations are set to emerge also, including Benin-Urhobo-Iwerre republic etc.

A homogenous Ibom republic is set to stand out as a country that will represent unity, peace and stability in the west African subregion. This will prove key to its development as a young nation as history has shown how the absence of much needed peace can hamper the development of even the most potentially great nations, as is Nigeria's case. This peace and stability is set to be maintained by a population of about 7 million fairly to well educated, vibrant citizens.

The terrain and weather of the country is mostly favorable and the much cleaner, less polluted environment sets the state apart amongst its peers in the South South (bar Cross River) which are steeped in staggering pollution from oil exploration and spillage. This is particularly impressive as the area boasts the largest earnings from the petrodollars industry. This huge income is now set to translate to the indigenous economy and will be of great significance as the new nation emerges.

Asides huge petrodollars, there is arable land for extensive crop cultivation and a huge underexplored tourism sector with the area's extensive coastline and great scenery for sightseeing and the likes. Also in its cache is a budding maritime sector that is on its way to berthing a new deep seaport, with the potential for a more engaged aqua sector and marine research. The airport project, predictably the first of many and the proposed refinery project are other noteworthy mentions of economic significance to the new nation. Also of implication, as regards its coastline, is that the new nation will have a naval fleet as big as it can handle.

The major city center is set to be Uyo with about a million residents.

Honestly those behind these posts are not even ibom people but some south EastEnders who are angry about the Niger Delta putting them in their place.

These IPOB/ESN/UGM irritants on nairaland and their antics. They’re trying to muddle the water and create problems where there is none, very ill-formed and immature lots.

Ibom Republic is not a bad idea, but assessment are baseless. You either want your freedom or you dont. If you want your freedom, forget assessment and do the following:

1) Create organisation(s) that will champion Ibom Republic just like Biafra has IPOB and MASSOB, and Oduduwa has Yoruba Nation and Young Yoruba For Freedom(YYF)

2) Come up with a Flag, National anthem and coat of arms for the proposed Ibom Republic. Biafra and Oduduwa already have their own

3) Galvanise the people to come out fearlessly and protest for Ibom Republic

If you cannot do these three things, you have not even started yet.

To agitate for a separate country is not easy, it is not something you can do with words alone

You see Biafrans and Oduduwa do it and you think its easy? Try doing it and find out how hard it is

The Igbo cohesion and energy is unmatched by the other groups. There is nothing much that can be done about. You must work at their pace or forge ahead.
