THIS IS MY HOMETOWN ENUGWU UKWU ; A COMMUNITY SITUATED AT THE HILL TOP.

By Akweke Francis Chidozie Okoye

If There Is One Community In Igboland Where Their People Practice The "Akuluouno" Philosophy To The Core, It Is Enugwu Nnem.

A Typical Son Of The Soil Who Has All The Properties In The City And Is Yet To Have A Mansion In His Village, Such A Fellow Is Seen As Akalaghori In My Hometown.

In Enugwu Ukwu, You Now Barely See Empty Plot Of Land Located At A Very Good Site Without Being Told That The Owner Is Either About To Build And Develop The Land Or Is Not Ready To Dispose Off The Land.

Most Ndi Enugwu Ukwu Enwero Zi Ana Ebe Anyi Ya Alu Uno. Some Of Us Are Now Relocating To Nearby Towns To Buy Land For Residential Houses. The Available Ones Are Very Costly. In Enugwu Ukwu Today, A Good Plot Of Land Is Not Lessthan 5 Million Naira.

History Has It That Enugwu Ukwu Community Was One Of The Foremost Communities In Igboland That Got Their Community Connected To The National Grid Of Electricity Immediately After The Civil War As Early As 1975 Through Self Help Led By Engr R.N Okeke (The Father Of The Current Deputy Governor Of Anambra State) Who Then Was A NEPA Senior Official.

History Also Has It That Enugwu Ukwu Community Was One Of The First Community In Old Anambra State That Constructed A Modern Civic Center In 1982 Commissioned By Former Vice President Arch Dr Alex Ekwueme Through Our Self Help Championed By A Foremost Contractor Late Chief R.O Nkwocha(Ide Of Enugwu Ukwu). Infact It Was This Modern Civic Centre Complex That Housed The Old Anambra State House Of Assembly Complex Immediately After The Creation Of Anambra State.

As Far Back As 1966, Enugwu Ukwu Community Through Self Help Mobilized By Sen Chukwuemeka Udenze Constructed A Well Equipped Post Office Complex In The Community And Handed It Over To The Federal Government Of Nigeria.

Enugwu Ukwu Is Indeed One Of The Most Developed Communities In Igboland. The Self Help And Enterprising Spirit Of A Typical Igbo Man Is Totally Epitomized In An Enugwu Ukwu Man.

#Note; This Photo Was Shot On My Wedding Day Last May, By My Cinematographer Mr Chinonso Gentility Esq.

I Am Proud Of My Town, Enugwu Ukwu And That Is Why I Am Crying Today That I Am Yet To Have My Own Mansion In My Hometown, Even When I Am Already A Small Landlord In Abuja.

Indeed Enugwu Nnem Amaka

Nice, but the quality of the tiles and its finishing leaves a lot to be desired

Was thinking it would be more compartmentalised than this....as we saw in the 3D rendering.

Since the ceiling is dark, i hope they get the lighting right, as it does look a bit dark inside the terminal.

They could have obscured the supporting iron structures a bit more...kinda like they did with the pillars in the hall below.

Have the lifts and escalators been installed? Couldn’t see any.

Bitter frustrated envious fellow, how could you tell the quality of tile by mere picture? For your information, this is not tiles but marbles. Mention one airport terminal building in Nigeria that has a better finishing than the world class Anambra international airport.
Face your backward useless state, your skewed opinion doesn't matter here

This is truly fantastic. If they can build a business model of making very fine ready-made packaged African-designed tops and trousers/ skirts. I am sure they will break the monopoly of China in designing and sewing ready-made African-designed clothes sold in every store all over the world.

I think they will obscure all the iron pillars. Except for the roof.

Yes, I agree that the color of the iron in the roof could have been white to enhance natural illumination But, we'll wait and see if they have the time to paint the roof white before opening. Thankfully, they used white for the walls which go a long way with illumination and creating the right ambiance.

White color on the roof will definitely enhance natural illumination. But, I don't think they should hold up the commissioning of the project just to paint the roof white. Unless if they can easily accommodate that in their budget without delaying the project.

They can spray white paint on the roof subsequently after commissioning. In fact, using the type of paint used to paint cars and steel, it shouldn't be a big deal to change the roof color to white subsequently.

Those nice pics of terminals around the world is how i’d want terminal-2 to look like...when Soludo wins (hopefully) and takes charge!

I’ve always posited that a state like Anambra has no business only having a local passenger airport! It is expedient, and indeed long overdue, that the state is put on the world map by having a truly functional international passenger airport! But this can’t be achieved with the present set-up where a Hadi-Sirika only wants 4 airports in the country to be so designated!

When, by Gods’ grace, Anambra is unshackled from the encumbrances placed on it by the present Nigerian political-economy, the present terminal wouldn’t be enough to contain the explosion in commerce, industry and tourism the state will witness! This is why, one way or the other, i want to see a positive and rapid change in our circumstances as a people! The rest of the world is not waiting for us to sort ourselves out as a country.....they’re leaving us behind!

Excellent development! We are getting there.

Does anyone know if they have finished marking the car park and the internal roads? I think simple things like properly marking the car park and writing the number of each parking space on it for easy identification. As well as properly marking the road into the airport and behind the terminal building are little things that spell quality in a project.

Painting the roof white would be great for extra use of natural lighting and the overall appeal of the terminal, but I don't think they will have time for it.

Well, the painting now could ruin the marble floors with paint droppings. Unless great care is taken to cover the tiles while painting the roof. All in all, it will take meticulous effort to do it properly and I don't think they will have time for it now. Moreover, it isn't as easy as just taking a ladder and climb to the roof to spray paint on it. It will take a lot of careful planning to do it well.

Very good update. I am sure that Anambra state government must have acquired all the lands along this superhighway corridor and allocate it to major multinational companies for industrial complexes, luxury real estate, etc

No, that doesn't make sense. It contradicts the major reason for the road. To decongest the Highway within onitsha. What will now be the difference with Onitsha when you have shops and buildings and cars turning in and out, It is not a street road but a highway. In fact it should be barricaded on both sides. Controlled access. That's how freeways in America are designed. You will never see buildings beside them or facing them even when it runs through a city.
