Ethiopia losses in the civil war have shown just how weak their military is, reducing their negotiating power and exposing them to an attack.

If they had been having a good diplomatic relationship with their neighbors then some of them would have probably stood up for them but they have a history of making enemies of them instead

Egypt will provide military support to the Ethiopian government and in exchange Ethiopia would end the construction of the dam.

Four foreign shipbuilders are currently competing to win a US$555 mn contract for 2 corvettes in the Corvette Acquisition Project of the Philippine Navy.

Project is a part of “Horizon 2” phase of the Philippines Modernization Programme that started in 2018 and will end in 2022.
Is there any details of the proposed ship before I call the Chief of Naval Staff?!

They should not be going for Chinese equipment even though Duertete has cultivated relationships with that regional power that is bent on so I acting that neighborhood. These corvettes would expectedly have cutting edge systems fit for dual use including scenarios for mounting surveillance against China

C-130 H with MAFFS Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System used by tunisian air force for fire fighting this days

This MAFFS (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) can discharge their entire load of up to 3,000 gallons of fire retardant in less than five seconds , covering an area one-quarter of a mile long by 100 feet wide, or make variable drops. Once the load is discharged, it can be refilled in less than 12 minutes.

I'm hoping the NN don't intend to go ahead with that "flagship" — 1 frigate nonsense. I'd pick twin corvettes over 1 frigate any day

I agree with this.

Two corvettes would be far better, 3 would be ideal.

There are many options we can pick from, Turkey is building excellent ships, Netherlands is there, Russia too, but for the sake of streamlining logistics, I would prefer a Chinese Corvette. Proper Type-056 corvettes to complement the OPVs.

We really don't need any additional patrollers, especially when we take into account SDB 3 & possibly 4, the 2 special mission ships from NIMASA & 2 40 meters damen vessels in Vietnam.

South Koreans most probably will win this tender too

Previously they used to gift old ships , equipments etc to sway the tenders their way

While in the issue of "Rwanda's military campaign" in Mozambique. We all know that Paul Kagame is there just for the PR show. Their military onslaught last week was nothing besides a PR show. See why:

This is a joint military venture between African countries in a country in need. The campaign should be coordinated under a single command like all multinational military operations. Rwanda knows this because it's part of Amani Africa II training and agreements.
So, Rwanda decided to act alone while countries were deploying their troops in order to gain some PR. In reality, they didn't do a dent on the enemy besides displaying to everyone that they're there to boost Kagame's ego.

I'd also like to disagree with the "DefenceWeb" article which says the deployment was sluggish. Countries were doing their long term deployment assessments. This military operation will last for years. The area of operation is 3 times the size of Israel and it's one big jungle. It's going to be a very slow fight.

So what's next? The insurgents will melt into the jungles, they'll resort to guerrilla warfare. They'll be attacking military targets and then vanish. They'll attack the infrastructure and vanish, they'll kidnap civilians and vanish again. They'll recruit more to join their fight, they'll use the existence of foreign troops as a tool to radicalise and recruit more youngsters.

The war will eventually have to go to the deep muddy jungles where the cameras and APCs won't go. The world will lose interest before it could be won.

How does the US spend 20 years fighting in Afghanistan, only to have the Taliban take over the country in 1 month?

This is a military disaster of enormous proportion no one is talking about.

Why blame Afghanistan, who were the US really bombing in that country?

don't compare US war effort in Afghanistan to the shabby effort the Nigerian armed forces is putting into fighting BH and Bandits. Let me tell you why.

The US will not allow terror to last on its own soil for 24 hours. If the US is unwilling to finish the war against terror in Afghanistan they have their reason and it is not their people that is getting bombed and killed everyday. Eveeln some of the soldiers dying in the US army in the war against terror are recruited immigrants. So they have nothing to loss.

But Nigeria we have a war at our door step, we have armed bandit slitting the throat of innocent school children and you sit in the confines of the dilapidated structure that you have convinced yourself to regard as a home and you dare make comparisons between the American foreign war against terror with your domestic war against a deadly and serious threat that is almost eating us up.

I as far as i understand the US strategy they were expecting the Afghan army will hold a stalemate and the government will then broker a peace deal with the Taliban and form a new government. But it seems the withdrawal of NATO Troops was such a shock that the government and including all institutions (including army, police and civil services) collapsed within 2 weeks. The Taliban's diplomacy missions to China and Russia gave them an extra big boost.

It will be over soon. embarassed

If you look at the amount of funds invested in the Afghan military over the past 20 years, you also add the billions in US military & contractor spending, claims & claims of killings of Taliban fighters in airstrikes it's just incredible that the Taliban can take over the country in 1 month.

I don't understand it, anyone with better information, I'm more than willing to listen.

I don't get this, these countries are right on the border with Afghanistan, they have the right to protect their own citizens no matter what.
