In response, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena said, “The PDP should go back and study how to play opposition politics because they will remain in opposition for a long time.quote author=Omooba77 post=104841708]
So APC don't have anything meaningful to say aside saying PDP don't know how to play opposition party, must PDP agree to your devilish decisions.

Don't like APC, but let's be honest

The fact is that we are not making enough money from oil. Meanwhile our tax to gdp is very low. Eventually we would have to find a way to raise money for road repairs and the only way I see this happening is via toll gates.

As for the complaint that they will loot the money...Well that is why we live in a democracy so that we can do the hard work of holding our leaders to account. Democracy is not about having everything done for you. You are not a baby. Stand up and do your part.

Anyone opposing toll gates is basically saying we should take more loans or we should continue with bad roads with no money to fix them.

So sorry, abuse me, but until you can suggest an alternative to funding road maintenance in this country and it is not by juat cutting the big man salary because we need far far more than what we can get from cutting salaries of all the big men, you should just keep shut and pay the toll. And even if Biafra and oodua come tjey will toll their roads too. Or become as indebted as Nigeria once was.

Let's be realistic

P.s
I don't like APC or pdp so don't go there.

Let's be realistic...how many progressive countries are a result of oil proceeds ?
Japan ? America, even South Africa ? Even look at how Ghanna has been faring in recent times and connect the dots... It's not about fall in oil prices , it's about harnessing the true potential (human / economic ) avaliable...
Until we wake up as a nation ,accept this truth and start doing things right , we will keep blaming unnecessary things like oil prices ...
Food for thought: Nigeria was a great country before oil was discovered. How did this happen and why is it that since the focus has been oil , Nigeria currently doesnt have a working refinery?

1.Nigeria was never great before oil. We were a poor country then and a poor country now.

2. Our problem is that whatever we sell we don't control the price. Whether it be oil palm cocoa cotton or groundout.

3. Our revenue from agric crashed in the 1970s. We used oil to hide the crash. We were.fortunate that oil prices shot up.

4. Great nations are nations that export industrial goods and services

5. We don't have a working refinery because we want to buy fuel at 40 naira per liter that costs nearly 200 naira to make. The refinreis run down because profits are not there to repair them and tjey are sabotaged because oil workers will be paid whether they work or not.

6.either we toll the roads or keep taking more and more loans.

7. For good measure Nigeria must industrialize. APC and PDP should wake up to that.

Modified

Because most Nigerians do not want the power and oil companies to have total control over the prices they set for selling power and petrol....just like Nigerians in the market have control over the prices they set for foodstuff, and non edibles, the power and oil companies don't have enough money to pay for good refinereis and much needed improvements in power generation and transmission. Any profits they make goes into salaries.

By allowing the power companies and the petrol companies set their prices, they would be able to make enough profits to improve things.

But since we are too poor....we get poor service.

Modified 2

It is a myth to believe that Nigeria was ever rich. Nigeria was not rich in the 1960's at all. My home village in the 1960's did not have power, or a decent road, until some 14 years ago. Many other villages were like that. Most of the schools we are using were built in the 1970's and 80's with oil boom money. Even then rich nations are nations that make things the world needs and sells them to the world at prices they control. Nigeria, and most other African nations are poor because we sell things like agricultural and mineral prodcts whose prices are never at a level that can sustain us, and when they collapse, we have to take loans.

We would have been in serious economic crisis like Ghana was in the 1970's if it wasn't for oil. In the 1970's many commonwealth nations had issues earning money from selling agric produce to the UK, ESPECIALLY as the UK was not well economically then. The ones that surivived were either industrial, or had to rebrand, or suffered.

Whatever PDP spokesperson uttered this nonsense needs to GTFOH with this bleep.
Did the PDP have concern for the masses when dem were looting the national treasury to the bare bones?
Imagine a former oil minister and very close ally to GEJ needing and procuring a diplomatic passport and citizenship from Dominica.

The amount collected by the numerous check points by Police and Customs on the Highways is far greater than what the toll gates will ever generate. Instead of creating tool gate to increase more hardship on motorist, they should just legalize the police and custom check points and make police a revenue generating agency.

2015: The same Buhari took power again 2015.... Seems like people are suffering more now than 1983.
